What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Indian cuisine? Aromatic curries, juicy tandoori chicken, and of course, the go-to food for many – the famous prata.

But what you might not know is there’s so many other foods that taste just as good as your favourite egg & cheese prata (if not better). So here are 8 places that serve super-delish Indian cuisine that you die-die must try!

Their signature crispy chicken biryani is fried with “magic powder” – deep fried cornflour mixed with tomato puree – which is what keeps customers coming back, according to store owner Mr Malik. Expect a queue if you visit during lunch hours. But go only after 11.30am – that’s when they start selling fried chicken dishes.

If we’re talking fine dining Indian restaurants, there’s no way Rang Mahal wouldn’t be brought up.

Their lunch buffet ($45) offers an extensive selection of starters – among them being blueberry raita, khandavi and bharwan mushrooms. Main courses include a mix of vegetarian and meat dishes – there’s butter chicken, kebabs, and their signature dish, the malmali seekh kebab (spiced minced lamb).

But if that’s out of your budget, not to worry – Rang offers a $28++ set lunch which consists of a soup, main course and dessert.

The final place to round up this list is Mr and Mrs Mohgan’s Super Crispy Roti Prata. This stall is the definition of “while stocks last” – it opens bright and early at dawn and closes just after noon. But if you’re a fan of prata, it’s well worth it.

Their egg prata is absolutely divine; but if you’re a man (or woman) of simple tastes, the plain one is just as good. Paired with a hearty serving of vegetable curry, you’ll find yourself travelling all the way to Joo Chiat just for this.
