Guess what?! Lulu the movie is coming to the big screen this November! Are you as excited about this as I am?
The previous movie I’ve watched with Michelle Chong on-screen was 一泡而红 where she played a calefare who dreamt of making it big in Singapore’s showbiz.
She had the entire audience laughing throughout the movie so you can understand my enthusiasm for her latest movie.
And her trailer, as she keeps telling us, was already viral so watch it if you haven’t.
But did you know that the movie was slated to come out last year? Here are 8 facts about Lulu the movie you should know to better appreciate the movie!
1. The movie was delayed by a year
It was reported by TNP that the movie was announced to arrive at the big screen late last year, but it was delayed because there were a lot of local movies coming out last year. Also, Michelle Chong was running short of time due to her involvement in other projects.
2. Singapore got talent
Not all the cast you see in the movie are full-time actors or actresses. In April 2014, a public audition was held where anyone can apply to try their hand at impressing Michelle Chong and hopefully get a part in the movie.
At the end of the audition, Michelle Chong was pleased with the auditions and said, “Singapore got talent”. Time to start practising your parts and see if you’ll get a shot at the next movie.
3. Lulu instead of Barbarella
If you’re a hardcore fan of The Noose, you’ll know Michelle Chong’s more popular characters: Lulu, Barbarella and Leticia.
She was deciding between Lulu, the Chinese KTV hostess from China or Barbarella, the SPG who’s obsessed with getting an ang moh boyfriend.
She said that Lulu came up top in surveys that she did and she wanted to portray a character which everyone is interested in currently: PRCs.
4. A Mockumentary
Michelle Chong envisions the movie to be a fake documentary, offering a look into the life of a PRC coming to Singapore to realise her dreams with plenty of humour injected into the movie.
5. Can you spot the real reactions and fake ones?
She’s not just interested in a one-dimension movie. In April 2014, she mentioned that there will be real reactions from people and scripted ones from actors.
Try this: guess which is real and which isn’t when you’re watching the movie because Michelle Chong is sure you won’t be able to tell the difference.
