Yio Chu Kang is one of those stations where there is literally no shopping mall or anything nearby. It is mostly filled with private estates and schools.
But while YCK may not have much to offer, it does have its secret (or not so secret) hideouts that are perfect for dates, a chill meet-up session with friends and great food.
So if you’ve been to any of these places below, share this post and let us know!
Nakhon Kitchen
Known for its awesome and affordable Thai food, Nakhon Kitchen is by far the best place to go for a meet up with friends. Located along Avenue 10, we promise that you’ll never regret visiting this place. Not only is the food cheap, the portions are big as well and of course, the food tastes amazing.
McDonald’s @ AMK Park
If you’re looking for somewhere to chill at night with your friends, we recommend the McDonald’s at AMK Park. A hot favourite among many, not only is it operating 24 hours, but just beside the McDonald’s lies a playground that’s home to plenty of heart-to-heart talks, especially during late nights where you sit at the swings and bare your heart out.
AMK West Park
And if sitting on swings and chatting isn’t your thing, feel free to walk around the park that is right next to the playground. The moment you enter the park, you’ll see this beautiful lily pond that has benches for you to sit down and relax. And we are issuing you a challenge: Walk up the 120 steps staircase that’ll take you up to a plaza in which you can have a breathtaking view of the gorgeous greenery. There are also jogging paths and fitness corners for you to get your workouts done.
Eatzi Gourmet
Located in ITE College Central, this restaurant serves delicious food. We recommend the steak which costs about $20. Not to mention that not only are the prices for the food affordable, it is also Halal certified!
Aston
If you thought that YCK has no trendy restaurants, you’re wrong! This newly opened restaurant is located in Nanyang Polytechnic and if you’re lucky, you won’t have to deal with the crowd.
Munshi Abdullah Avenue
Looking for some adventure? Located along the long stretch of Yio Chu Kang Rd, this place is probably unknown to most. Among all the terrace houses, there is a retaining wall that overlooks the terrace houses. This huge piece of land stretches across the whole neighbourhood.
A little fun fact: It used to be an old Kampong road. You can actually still see some parts of the kampong road. This place is great for relaxing and just enjoying what nature has to offer – looking at fruit trees and hearing the birds chirp. It’s as though you’re back in the 1970s.
Upper Pierce Reservoir
About 5 bus stops away from Yio Chu Kang Station, this reservoir is not only awesome for jogs, but great for dates as well. I recommend going in the morning where you walk or run on the trek, before spending the rest of the time sitting by the river and chatting with your special someone.
As not many people go there, the area is very peaceful and calming. The evening works just as well, but take note that it can get dark there pretty fast.
Lentor Avenue
Lentor Avenue is my favourite hang out place whenever I meet my friends at night. With multiple playgrounds around, I love the quiet and peaceful setting there. On days where you need some time to yourself, taking a walk around the area will really help to clear your head.
And if your friend is with you, there’s not a need to worry about anything disturbing you. Find your favourite playground and feel free to speak your true feelings. I assure you, it is the perfect place to go to for any heart to heart sessions.
