Nobody likes to read these kind of headlines, but it’s still true that these grisly crimes happened right in our country. Although our overall crime rates are still low and many of us still feel safe and secure within our neighbourhoods, some people unfortunately did not manage to escape their fates. We take a look at some of the murders that shook our nation to the core in the recent years.
Murder at AMK MRT station
A 39-year-old man repeatedly stabbed another 48-year-old man during the morning rush hour in September 2015, near AMK MRT station. What was even more shocking was that passers-by clearly heard the murderer saying in Mandarin to the victim right after he stabbed him, “Please, please, don’t let anything happen to you, I love you.”
3 murders in 5 days
In September 2015, there were three murders that happened within a short span of 5 days. The victims included a husband who was murdered by his wife, a Malay woman who was murdered by her friend and also the repeated stabbing of a man in Ang Mo Kio, mentioned above.
Suicide after murdering
A woman attacked her own mother with a knife and chopper in their own house located in AMK. The murder was pretty bloody, with the mother having her tongue, eyeballs and lungs separated from her body. After the police broke into the house, they witnessed the daughter committing suicide by jumping out of the window.
Legless body
In June 2014, a 59-year-old Pakistani man was murdered by two of his Pakistani companions in Singapore. One of the murderers bought an electric saw from Mustafa Shopping Centre, and they were caught because a worker identified the man as the customer. The legless body was found in a luggage inside a Muslim cemetery.
Crazy ex-boyfriend
In November 2015, a man murdered his ex-girlfriend in his own HDB flat located in Boon Lay. His mother was also present. Witnesses claim that they heard the mother screaming at him to put down his knife, before more female screams were heard. The victim was stabbed to death by the man.
Elderly man murdered his daughter-in-law
In August 2014, an elderly 80-year-old man was found to have murdered his 54-year-old daughter-in-law in a Tampines flat. He was remanded for psychiatric assessment, and also believed to be the oldest murderer in Singapore’s recent history.
Man murdered in a Chinese Temple
The homeless victim was believed to have doted on his special needs eldest son. Both of them lived in a temple in Teck Whye. He was murdered with a blow to the back of his head, leaving a 2m blood trail behind. The murder happened very recently just a few days ago in March 2016, so not much details are known yet, except that the suspect has been caught and is undergoing investigation.
