You often tell yourself “Yes, I’ll go for a jog later.” or “Time to head to the gym!” but often times and especially without discipline, we end up not following through or stopped after awhile. There are many ways to lose weight and sometimes, we may be too busy (or lazy) to exercise. Fret not, here are 8 simple and natural ways for you to shed some excess weight to remain healthy and happy.
Drinking green tea

I’m sure this isn’t foreign to you, green tea is common and known for helping people to lose weight. The ingredients in the tea leaves aids in your metabolism and helps in breaking down the fat cells and releasing them into your bloodstream. Go, stubborn fat cells, go!
Eating healthy

You often see skinny people ordering salads and it’s time for you to stop calling them show offs. Eating more greens and lesser fried food is easily one of the best ways to cut down on your fat intake. Changing your diet to consuming more fruits and vegetables consistently might just surprise you with the result of a healthier body and slimmer figure. This method is so easy, you don’t even need to put your sports shoes on!
Walking more

The next time you travel home, get down a bus or train stop earlier from where you usually alight at and spend the time walking home instead. Walking is a less tiring form of exercise but it does help! You’ll not only save some money from the transport fare, you get to enjoy the nice breeze and get to shed some calories.
Climbing the stairs

In Singapore, almost every corner can be found with stairs – the MRT, your HDB, parks, schools and malls. Opting to climb the stairs instead of the escalator is another form of exercise that can be done every day easily. Even better, when you’re heading home from the grocery store, you’ll be able to use your bags of groceries as dumbbells, resulting in more calories lost.
Skip carbonated drinks

Also known as “soft drinks”, you’ll want to skip these drinks entirely if you knew how much sugar is contained! Though shiok during humid days, these drinks are a one-way route for you to gain fats you wouldn’t want fast.
Skip salty snacks

If hard to skip entirely, I would then say, eat in moderation. These salty snacks contain a high amount of sodium and would be hard to get rid of when in your body. If you can control your cravings and skip this aisle in the grocery store, though, then well done! Go get an apple instead.
Drink more water

Try to remind yourself to drink water instead of other beverages. Consuming other types of drinks usually make you feel fuller due to the amount of sugar and artificial flavourings. Opting to go for water means being able to keep your body hydrated, healthy and with no sweeteners to keep you feeling “full”.
Sleeping early

Other than not eating healthy, this is surely one of the main reasons why people put on more weight. What’s worse than not eating healthy is eating late. Sleeping at a later timing would trick your mind to subconsciously tell yourself to find food to snack on, even when you’re not really that hungry.
Sleeping immediately after supper would also mean less time for your body to digest and no chance to burn off the fats that you just ate. Additionally, this would lead to a higher risk of stroke. So the next time you reach in for that cup noodle at 1am, think twice!
