Have you ever wondered how rich some people in the world are? The answer is very rich, and it looks like they’re all vying to get on that list.
This list:
8 S’poreans on Bloomberg Billionaires List & 2 of Them Are from Haidilao
Lest you’re unaware, the Bloomberg Billionaires Index is a daily ranking of the world’s richest people.
This index takes into account details like total net worth, industry and nationality of each billionaire listed and a net worth analysis on each billionaire’s profile page.
The figures are refreshed and updated at the close of every trading day in New York and reports on the world’s and Asia’s richest depend on these numbers.
This time around, a grand total of eight Signaporeands made it to the very prestigious index. For reference sake, I will list the top five Singaporeans on the index and state their global ranking and net worth.
1. Goh Cheng Liang, 92
Global rank: 142
Net worth: US$10.7 billion
He is the founder of Wuthelam Holdings, a paint and coatings maker, which has a joint-venture with Japan’s Nippon Paint Holdings.
2. Wee Cho Yaw, 89
Global rank: 181

He is the largest shareholder and chairman emeritus of United Overseas Bank, Singapore’s third-biggest lender by assets.
3. Li Xiting, 68

He is the chairman of Shenzhen Mindray Bio-Medical Electronics, a Chinese medical equipment maker.
4. Shu Ping, 49
Global rank: 230
Net worth: US$7.51 Billion
She is the co-founder and director of Haidilao International Holding, China’s biggest chain of hotpot restaurants. She founded the company with her husband Zhang Yong who (unsurprisingly) is also a billionaire.
5. Zhang Yong, 48
Global rank: 232
Net worth: US$7.49 billion
Mr Zhang is the co-founder and chairman of Haidilao International Holding, which has more than 460 restaurants and reported revenue of 17 Billion yuan in 2018.
As you can see, two of them are from Haidilao, but is it really that surprising?
Just check out our article about how the founder of Haidilao became Singapore’s richest man recently and you’ll know what I mean.
Moral of the story? Open a hotpot restaurant chain.
