Back then, Hotmail was da bomb and we had our fair share of fun and fear with the chain emails going around, which always began with “FW: FW: FW:”. In fact, they were so memorable that I still have them in my inbox. So here are some hilarious and creepy chain emails you may remember back in the good old days!
Why Chinese Shouldn’t Have Christian Names
Back in those days, Taiwanese idols were coming up with creative (and random) English names, such as Zax, Jungle and Ice. Then there was a chain email going around that made fun of English names that meant entirely different things when coupled with Chinese surnames.
Paul Chan => Bankrupt
Faye Chen => Dusty
Jane Tan => Fried Egg
Pete Tsai => Booger
Nelson Tan => Bird Laying Eggs
Lifestyle in Singapore
The classic email that twisted the meanings of local acronyms, best remembered for SENTOSA (So Expensive, Nothing TO See Actually). Well, fortunately that’s no longer true, as Sentosa has undergone major renovations since the 90s and is so much more fun now!
4 Year-Old IQ Test
It was a pretty straightforward question – Which way is the bus below travelling?
The answer is to the right, because you can’t see the door to get on the bus!
Faith, the two-legged dog
Chain emails were one of the earliest ways we shared stories, touching, creepy or hilarious. There was this story of Faith that came with pictures, about how he was born with three legs and had to amputate the only front leg.
Just as his first owner decides to euthanize him, Jude Stringfellow came along and gave him a second chance. Their touching story together was also published into a book and was featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show. Woahhh.
Ghost under the bed
If you remember the photo, you’d probably remember cursing your friend in school for sending it to you.
In the chain email was a photo of a supposed hospital bed overseas where the patient lying on the bed doesn’t know that there’s a creepy guy lying underneath his bed. I remember my friend telling me that she didn’t dare to look under her bed for months after seeing that photo.
Kangaroo in Denmark eating an Orange
Choose a number between 1 to 10, multiply it by 9, add up the two digits, minus 5 and determine the letter in the alphabet that corresponds to the number you get (a=1, b=2, c=3). Think of a country that starts with the letter, think of an animal that begins with the last letter of the country and think of a fruit that begins with the last letter of the animal. Chances are, you would be thinking of “Kangaroo in Denmark eating an Orange”.
Not sure how true that is, but if that’s not your answer, you’re probably the 2% minority of the human race. Congratulations on being the odd one!
Singapore Ghost Story
There was an email about a girl in Singapore who passed away and gave her loved ones the message that she wanted to be buried with her mobile phone. Creepy things started to happen as her good friends kept receiving messages from her…
…the conclusion? Starhub has the best coverage wherever you go!
=_= Anyone remembers the Dynamo version?
The Turtle Family
Papa Turtle, Mama Turtle and Baby Turtle decided to go for a picnic one day. They took a long time to pack and get to the beach, only to realize that they forgot to bring the mat! Papa Turtle asked the baby to go back home and get the mat. Baby Turtle agreed on the condition that they wait for him to return before they start eating.
Two years passed and Baby Turtle hasn’t returned. Extremely hungry, the turtle parents started to take out the food. Just as they are about to dig in, Baby Turtle sticks his head out from behind a rock and said, “You all eat I don’t go take liao ah!!!”
