Have you watched the trailer for Korea’s first zombie movie “Train to Busan?”
Zombie movies and dramas are extremely popular these days, starting off with the American Hit TV Series “The Walking Dead.” However, this should be one of the few zombie movies produced by Asian countries.
The great news is, this movie looks good and has already scored a rating of 4/5. It may be a big hit and surpass your expectations of a Korean film and show that they’re not just good at romance and complicated love relationships.
Here are 8 unknown facts about “Train to Busan,” that will make you want to watch it.
It first premiered in May 2016
The film is said to be released on 20 July but has already first premiered in May 2016 during the Cannes Film Festival. (Wow factor +10!)
Cannes Film festival is an annual film festival held in Cannes, France, which previews new films and documentaries of all genres from around the world. We’ll assume that “Train to Busan” should be good.
The genre is not labelled as horror
As a fan of zombie shows, you’d expect such films to be horror. They’re scary and sometimes sadistic, and features tons of ugly, monster-looking walking corpses.
Such movies also include a theme of gore, however, “Train to Busan” is categorised as action, suspense and thriller rather than horror. They promise you high suspense and thrill with elements such as music.
We’re assuming there won’t be scenes of humans being torn apart mercilessly by zombies or flesh-eating zombies being bashed down until the bones by humans.
The main cast is Gong Yoo
The main actor is Gong Yoo, who also played Choi Han Kyul in the MBC romantic comedy “The First Shop of Coffee Prince.” Gong Yoo will play Seok Woo in the movie, along with a daughter played by Kim Soo Ahn.
This isn’t his first film
Gong Yoo has acted in multiple movies (10 of them, in fact.) before taking on this role even though he is more well-known for his appearances on TV.
The director’s works
Director of “Train to Busan,” Yeon Sang Ho, has directed 3 other shows before. These 3 shows are animated dramas or movies, and “Train to Busan” is one of his very first life action movies. He has also won several awards before for his works.
One of his animations is a zombie film
One of director Yeon Sang Ho’s animations is the zombie film titled “Seoul Station.” You’d think that he really enjoys creating shows of zombie outbreaks on trains.
“Seoul Station” is somewhat a prequel to “Train to Busan”
The story of “Train to Busan” will pick up where that film left off, depicting a homeless enclave inside the central train station as the source of the zombie outbreak. So if you’re a zombie or animation fan, you can definitely check out “Seoul Station” before the upcoming movie hits the cinemas.
This is not your usual zombie apocalypse show
You’ll not have someone like Rick Grimes – a selfless good cop who tries to help everyone (before he became the murderous maniac anyway). Protagonist Seok Woo doesn’t act like your neighbourhood hero who puts himself out on the front line to save the day – he acts on his self-preserving instincts and what some people may call selfish.
