Singapore’s largest pre-school operator, PAP Community Foundation (PCF) kindergarten, will turn 80 of its kindergartens into full-day childcare centres.
This will surely give parents more flexibility and allow them to juggle work and taking care of their children.
The changes aren’t instant though, as the conversion will take place progressively over the next four years.

Part Of Government’s Plan To Increase Childcare Spaces
The Straits Times reported that it is part of the Government’s plan to increase the number of childcare species.
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said this is especially so in the younger estates like Punggol, Sengkang and Choa Chu Kang.
He also mentioned that more than 50 PAP Community Foundation (PCF) kindergartens were turned into full-day childcare centres in 2018.
PCF To Offer Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths And More
Perhaps what is even more interesting is that PCF is set to broaden its curriculum to include subjects like Science, Technology Engineering, Maths, Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

Right now, I’m imagining babies in lab coats and suits.
Currently, 12 pre-schools are already offering these subjects and more pre-schools will begin to offer this curriculum in 2020.
In case you’re unaware, the PCF is the People Action Party’s charitable arm that offers Sparkletots pre-schools.

Some Sparkletots Centres To Focus On Outdoor Learning
I feel pretty envious of the kids these days because get this: two new Sparkletots centres which will open in Radin Mas and Joo Chiat will focus on outdoor learning.
How cool is that? All I remember from pre-school was nap time.
The Radin Mas centre will also have a nursing home located at the same location.
According to PM Lee, “This way, the young people can encourage the old ones and cheer them up, and the old people can keep an eye on the young ones and… engage with them.”
It’s pretty interesting to see the changes in the curriculum and offerings by kindergarten and schools. Hopefully, it will provide our new generation with a more holistic education that doesn’t just focus on learning in the classroom.

Who knows, it might also encourage them to develop a love for learning at an early age. Or… maybe not.
