We’ve all been hearing quite a fair bit of news about murders and deaths happening recently.
It’s upsetting, tragic, and not exactly the kind of news that will put a smile on your face or brighten your day.
Well, today…
…is going to be no different.
Woman Found Dead in Toa Payoh
A 79-year-old woman was found dead in her Toa Payoh flat in the wee hours of Sunday morning, on the 1st of September.
The police received a call for help around 3.40am at Block 191 Lorong 4 Toa Payoh.
The victim, Madam Lim Soi Moy, also known as Lim Kim Luan, was found lying motionless in her flat, and she was pronounced dead immediately by paramedics at the scene.
The case has been classified as murder and the suspect, Pak Kian Huat, 82, was arrested.
They Were an Unmarried Couple
According to The Straits Times, neighbours have informed them that the two were not married but lived in the same flat for over 20 years.
Lim was often affectionately known as “Ah ma”, which means grandmother, by her former colleagues. Neighbours and friends described her as someone who was friendly and active.
Retiree Madam Goh Leng Sim, 86, who lives below their unit, told The Straits Times that she did not actually see the pair around much. She would only bump into Lim on some mornings when she latter was going out to exercise.
An unnamed neighbour also told Shin Min Daily News that although the pair have had squabbles over the years, nothing had ever indicated that they would escalate into violence.
Madam Lim’s Children
Lim had two sons and two daughters, as well as adult grandchildren.
Neighbours said that she had one daughter who lived in the United States who would come to Singapore at least once a year to stay with her.
Two men, believed to be Madam Lim’s sons, were led by officers into the flat while investigations were going on, on Sunday.
They did not want to be interviewed.
Madam Lim used to work at the Safra Toa Payoh McDonald’s outlet until she retired earlier this year. She had been an employee there since 2013.
Pak will be charged in court today (2 September 2019), and if found guilty of murder he could be sentenced to death.
