It’s now one of the best months of the year – the Mid-Autumn Festival is here soon. And you know what that means right? All sorts of mooncakes to tempt your tastebuds!

The sad thing is, though, that it costs so much to get yourself a one-of-a-kind mooncake. It’s irrelevant as to whether you get one in a 5-star hotel or if it’s a specialty brand; your money is going to fly either way.

But what if you could get better, cheaper ones? All you need to do is go into JB! Here are 9 places that offer you really good mooncakes in the country next door.

Season Confectionary and Bakery

Yup, this bakery is well known for its fantastic pastries. You probably won’t even think of walking in for mooncakes. But trust us on this one; the mooncakes aren’t too sweet nor oily. There are a couple of places to get them too!

SDS Bakery & Café

A bakery cum café that’s really loved by the locals when it’s time to get mooncakes. Try one there and you’ll get the drift – these guys are good!

Dragon-I Restaurant

The packages from this company are truly high-end, so if you’re getting them for gifts, no one will ever know you’ve got them for a steal! There are outlets in AEON Bukit Indah and Johor Bahru City Square too. Have a good meal while you’re there, too!

Yuen Fatt Biscuit Sdn Bhd

Some of the best mooncakes in JB, which is famous for its Shanghainese mooncakes. Long queues expected, so brace yourself! You might need to venture a bit further, but it’s worth it.

Lavender Confectionery & Bakery

Another place with great packaging and of course, great tasting mooncakes too.

Yee Siang Confectionery

This is a place that specialises in childhood treats like the red bean paste biscuits and Wife biscuits, but they do create fantastic classic mooncakes (the lotus kind and so on) when the season hits!

Tai Thong Mooncakes

Well, there’s no specific shop for this brand, but this is a renowned company in Malaysia, and of course, JB. If you come across their mooncakes at mooncake fairs like AEON’s Bukit Indah Shopping Center or Johor Bahru Shopping Center, grab them!

Kam Lun Tai

Another brand in Malaysia that needs no introduction, and is readily available at almost any supermarket or shopping centre during the Mooncake Festival.
