Just a couple of weeks ago, it seemed like a second circuit breaker was on the cards. Now, we have fewer community cases than PM Lee has pink shirts.
Four new COVID-19 cases were reported yesterday, of whom two were from the community.
This is the lowest daily case count since 23 Feb, when four cases were reported as well.
The only bad news is that one of the community cases is unlinked. Here are the details:
Unlinked Case Not Tested Even Though He Visited Clinic Twice
The sole unlinked community case is a 29-year-old male Myanmar national who works as a repair worker at Grandwork Interior.
The man developed a fever on 1 June and sought medical treatment at a GP clinic. He subsequently developed body aches on 4 June and returned to the same GP clinic. However, for reasons no one knows, he was not tested for COVID-19 on both occasions.
His infection was only detected when he was swabbed on 5 June as part of Rostered Routine Testing (RRT).
His pooled test result came back positive for COVID-19 on 7 June, and an individual test returned a positive result as well.
His earlier tests from RRT – the last being on 8 May – were all negative for COVID-19 infection. His serology test result is positive.
The 29-year-old received his first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine on 31 May.
NTUC Foodfare (308 Anchorvale Road) Cluster
Yet another hawker at NTUC Foodfare’s outlet along Anchorvale Road has tested positive for COVID-19.
He’s a 21-year-old Malaysian man who works as a kitchen assistant at Rice Garden (308 Anchorvale Road).
He was placed on quarantine on 29 May after being identified as a workplace contact of a previous case.
When tested for COVID-19 on 30 May during quarantine, the result came back negative.
But he later developed a fever and cough on 7 June. He was tested for COVID-19 on 8 June after reporting his symptoms and this time, it returned a positive result.
His serology test result is pending.
2 Imported Cases
Besides the two community cases, another two cases from abroad were detected. They are a Singaporean and a Singapore Permanent Resident who returned from India and Iraq.
Both had already been placed on stay-home notice upon arrival here.
Fortunately, no new infections have emerged in dormitories.
158 Cases in Hospitals
At the moment, there are 158 confirmed COVID-19 cases in hospitals. One is in critical condition in the intensive care unit.
Another 291 with lower risk factors or mild symptoms are isolated and cared for at community facilities.
38 more cases have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities recently.
