Singapore topped the list of “Most expensive cities to live in” last year, and we are not expecting any major changes in ranking this year too. With such high standards of living, many people are probably looking to cut back spending. However, even if you are cutting back on quantity, you shouldn’t cut back on quality – and that’s what many of the flea markets in Singapore offer! Whether you are looking for necessities, unique handcrafted goods or clothes in pristine condition, you are bound to find them at the flea markets below.
China Square Central Weekend Flea Market
18 Cross Street
Every Sunday: 11am-6pm
The hipster will be in heaven here. This flea market offers antiques and collectibles, many of which can be snapped up at bargain prices if you reach early enough.
MAAD
Red Dot Design Museum, 28 Maxwell Road
1st or 2nd Friday of each month: 5pm-12am
MAAD, or short for Market of Artists and Designers, has exactly what its name would suggest. Handcrafted and locally-designed, the goods here are unique and worth checking out against a background of DJs and bands.
Public Garden
Location varies
Held monthly
Independent businesses and designers market their wares here and you will be able to find all sorts of kitschy trinkets. Bibliophiles can also go for the independent publications being peddled here.
TGIF Sentosa Boardwalk Bazaars
Sentosa Boardwalk
Saturdays : 4 pm to 11.30 pm; Sundays : 2 pm to 9.30 pm
The weekend bazaar here is held weekly, with shops peddling everything from secondhand stuff to handcrafted goodies. If you are looking for more, TGIF Bazaars also hold other bazaars regularly around Marina Waterfront and Clarke Quay.
Zouk Flea & Easy
Zouk Club, 17 Jiak Kim Street
Quarterly on Sunday, 2pm-7pm
Held once every three months on a Sunday, the daytime flea market is not any less exciting than during its usual operations at night. DJs and great music accompany shoppers who will be able to find all sorts of pre-loved items.
Sunday Artist Market (SAM)
The Vault, 237 South Bridge Road
Bi-monthly: 1pm – 6 pm
This hipster-ish market offers a wide variety of artsy goods ranging from vintage jewellery to contemporary art.
Sungei Road Market
Sungei Road Market, Sungei Road, Singapore 208785
Open daily 1pm-7pm
Its other name is the Thieves Market but don’t worry, this is a proper flea market and not a black market. Secondhand stuff are the ones that are mostly on sale here at the only daily flea market in Singapore. Sadly, we have received news about this long-running flea market being shut down soon so as to accommodate the upcoming Sungei Road MRT station.
*SCAPE Marketplace
2 Orchard Link, *SCAPE Mall
Friday-Sunday: 12-10pm
This is perhaps the most well-known flea market that comes to the minds of young people when they hear the phrase “flea market”. Having a convenient location right in the centre of town, trendy youngsters like to visit this flea market for clothes and accessories at bargain prices.
Loewen Gardens’ Farmers Market
75 Loewen Road, Singapore 248844
1st and 3rd Saturday of the month: 9am-2pm.
Possibly the only regular flea market that is solely focused on food, you will have a great time pigging out here with your kakis. The food range here ranges from gourmet meats to homemade confectionery.
