This old man could be the coolest granddad ever.
On his 90th birthday, he celebrated by getting his family to join him on a sky-diving trip. What were you doing on your 21st birthday? Probably in a function room cutting your birthday cake.
He jumped out of the plane and into the Singapore’s book of records for being the oldest skydiver in Singapore.
Skydiving with the family
In October 2015, Mr Tan Kok Sing and his jumped out of a plane from a height of 4,260m in Wollongong, Australia with 13 family members across all three generations.
According to tnp.sg, Mr Tan said that it has always been his dream to have a skydive together with his family members.
“Having everyone rush over to (Wollongong) to celebrate my 90th birthday by skydiving together made me very happy.”
A role model to Singaporeans
Mr Tan view himself as a role model to Singaporeans and wanted to teach them that everything in life is a matter of perspective.
“I want to show Singaporeans that we cannot back away from things just because we are afraid, or because that thing is dangerous.”
“How can a society function if we are all too afraid to step out of our comfort zones?”
A fitness advocate
When he’s not busy leaping out of planes, he spends his time with his basketball team or jogging club, which he founded at the age of 52.
His other achievements include joining the Mobil Marathon at age 62, white rafting in New Zealand at 67, first and second skydive in Cairns, Australia at 71 and 82, abseiled 35m from the Kenyon Engineering office building at age 83 and did a third skydive at age 89.
