A 59-year-old man was charged with murder on Wednesday, 22 July, following a fatal fight at an HDB block in Lengkok Bahru.
Ng Swee Seng is accused of causing the death of 59-year-old Thiyagarajan Karunakaran at the common corridor on the 16th floor of Block 55 Lengkok Bahru.
The alleged offence took place at about 4.45pm on Monday, 20 July.
Victim Found Motionless at Lift Lobby
The Singapore Police Force said it received calls for assistance at the block at about 4.45pm.
When officers arrived, they found Mr Thiyagarajan lying motionless at the lift lobby on the 16th floor.
He was taken to the National University Hospital, where he subsequently died.
Ng was arrested at the scene. Preliminary police investigations found that the two men knew each other.
The police have not disclosed further details about what allegedly caused the fight in their official statement.
Accused Remanded for Medical Examination
Ng appeared in court through a video link and spoke through a Mandarin interpreter.
He told the court that he would scold people when he heard sounds, adding that he had heard a voice.
Ng will be remanded for a medical examination. His case is scheduled to return to court for its next mention on 12 August.
The medical examination should not, by itself, be interpreted as evidence that Ng has any particular medical condition. No finding about his mental state was made during the hearing reported on 22 July.
Ng was charged with murder under Section 302(1) of the Penal Code 1871.
The offence carries the death penalty upon conviction.
