A woman taking part in a duathlon at East Coast Park was injured after another participant allegedly collided with her during the cycling leg and continued riding without stopping.
The incident happened at around 9.30am on Sunday, 13 September, during the TriFactor Triathlon & Duathlon 2026. Police have since confirmed that a report was lodged and that they are looking into the matter.
Sister Appeals for Witnesses After Alleged Collision
In an Instagram post cited by Mothership, the injured woman’s sister said the incident happened while her sister was cycling during the race.
According to the sister’s account, the woman recalled a male participant overtaking her from the left before the collision occurred.
She was thrown from her bicycle and subsequently taken by ambulance to Changi General Hospital’s emergency department.
Her sister said the other rider did not stop after the collision and instead continued with the race. The family later appealed online for witnesses who might be able to identify him.
Photos shared in the Instagram post showed the woman with injuries to her face, including bruising and a bloodied lip, as well as bandages.
The woman later wrote online that she was in pain and dealing with injuries, as well as damage to her bicycle and sunglasses.
She also said she was disappointed that she could not finish the race. Her family subsequently asked her to return to Kuala Lumpur so they could care for her while she recovered, according to the posts cited by Mothership.
A police report has since been made.
TriFactor Says Medical Team Responded Immediately
TriFactor’s management told Mothership that it was aware of the cycling incident involving one of its participants.
The organiser said its safety and medical personnel at the venue responded immediately and followed the event’s established procedures.
It also said a preliminary review found that the standard operational measures for the event had been carried out, and that it was in direct contact with the injured participant to support her recovery.
TriFactor’s official event information states that medical teams and course marshals were stationed along the route, with participants instructed to seek help from them if assistance was needed.
The woman’s sister initially said the family had difficulty getting a response from the organiser. She later updated her post to say that someone from TriFactor had contacted them.
She said the family was not seeking to place all responsibility on the organiser, but wanted its cooperation so the circumstances surrounding the incident could be investigated.
Race Was Held at East Coast Park
The TriFactor Triathlon & Duathlon 2026 was held at East Coast Park on 13 September, with duathlon participants completing a run-bike-run format.
A section of East Coast Park Service Road between Exit 7A and the National Sailing Centre was closed to normal vehicular traffic from 6am to noon for the event.
Police have not announced any finding on responsibility for the alleged collision.
