A 65-year-old Singapore man has pleaded guilty to five charges after breaking into a Telok Kurau residence and assaulting a domestic worker with whom he had been in a relationship.
The charges included house-breaking, voluntarily causing hurt and theft.
Court proceedings heard that the woman wanted to end their relationship and return to her home country after her employment contract expired.
The man, who worked as a plumber, did not accept the proposed break-up.
He Scaled the Wall and Entered Her Bedroom
According to court documents cited by local media, the man had been working as a plumber at the private residence in Telok Kurau, while the woman worked there as a domestic worker.
The pair became romantically involved after getting to know each other.
However, the woman intended to return to her home country after completing her employment contract and told the man that she wanted to end their relationship.
Between 10pm on 21 March and 5am on 22 March 2026, the man scaled the wall of the residence and entered the woman’s bedroom.
She woke up after hearing him enter.
During the assault, he sat on top of her, pulled her hair and banged her head against the floor.
The woman subsequently went to hospital, where an examination found bruising on her scalp.
Man Said Woman Had Previously Accepted His Marriage Proposal
During earlier court proceedings, the man said that the domestic worker had previously accepted his marriage proposal and that he had spent a considerable amount of money on her.
His lawyer said in mitigation that the 65-year-old had no previous criminal record and had cooperated fully with investigations.
The defence also said that he had returned the items involved in the theft offences.
His lawyer characterised his actions as a desperate attempt to save the relationship.
The prosecution has asked for a jail sentence.
Sentencing Set for 1 October
The man has indicated that he is willing to compensate the woman for her medical expenses.
The judge gave him time to arrange the compensation and adjourned the case for sentencing on 1 October 2026.
He is currently out on S$20,000 bail.
