4 Singaporeans Hurt After Car Skids Into Drain on Cameron Highlands Road; Driver Trapped

Four Singaporeans were injured after their car skidded into a drain along the Cameron Highlands-Simpang Pulai road in Malaysia on Wednesday afternoon, 30 September.

The accident happened near Kampung Pergom, along a route often used by motorists heading to or from Cameron Highlands.

According to Malaysian authorities, the four people in the car were three men aged 19, 20 and 21, and a 21-year-old woman.

Driver Had to Be Freed by Firefighters

The Perak Fire and Rescue Department said it received the emergency call at about 3.45pm on 30 September.

When rescuers arrived, the car, reported by Utusan Malaysia to be a Honda Civic, was already in a drain.

Three of the Singaporeans, who sustained light injuries, had been helped out of the vehicle by members of the public before firefighters reached the scene.

The fourth person, a 20-year-old man who was in the driver’s seat, was still trapped.

Firefighters from the Simpang Pulai Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the scene at about 3.57pm and used rescue equipment to free him. He was reported to have suffered light injuries to his leg.

All Four Taken to Hospital

All four injured Singaporeans received initial treatment at the scene from Malaysian Health Ministry personnel, assisted by Emergency Medical Rescue Services personnel.

They were later taken to hospital by ambulance.

The rescue operation involved eight firefighters, five police personnel and four Health Ministry personnel.

No fatalities were reported in the accident.

Road Has Seen Other Serious Accidents

The Cameron Highlands-Simpang Pulai road has seen other serious crashes before.

Earlier in September 2026, two men died and another was injured after two lorries collided along the Simpang Pulai-Cameron Highlands road, according to Bernama.

In March 2025, three people were injured after a bus carrying Singaporean passengers crashed along the same broader route.

For Singapore drivers heading to Cameron Highlands, the route is scenic but can involve slopes, bends and weather changes. Motorists should drive cautiously, especially during rain or low-visibility conditions.
