Motorcyclists Can Now Use Selected Woodlands Car Lanes for Automated Departure Clearance

Motorcyclists and their pillion passengers leaving Singapore through Woodlands Checkpoint can now clear immigration automatically at selected car lanes.

The arrangement started today (15 October), allowing eligible riders and passengers to use facial recognition for identity checks. ICA had announced the move on 9 October.

Up To 18 Car Lanes Equipped

The Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) told 8world that up to 18 car lanes have been fitted with automated clearance facilities for motorcyclists and pillion passengers.

The measure will be introduced progressively, with the number of car lanes used for motorcycles depending on traffic conditions at the time.

ICA said automation allows it to operate more lanes without stationing an officer at every lane, increasing its capacity to clear motorcycles, particularly during peak periods.

Based on trials, clearance at these lanes is expected to take about 10% less time than at manual lanes. That works out to roughly two seconds saved per motorcycle during the clearance process.

Who Can Use The Lanes?

Facial recognition clearance is available to Singapore residents, long-term pass holders and foreign visitors who have previously entered Singapore.

Before entering a designated lane, riders and pillion passengers should lift their helmet visors and remove sunglasses and face masks.

Riders of foreign-registered motorcycles must insert their Autopass card. They can then scan either their passport or a QR code generated through the MyICA mobile app.

Next, they should look at the screen so the system can capture their facial images and verify their identities. They can leave the lane once verification is successful.

Travellers using QR codes must still carry their passports. ICA may request them for verification, and passports are also needed for immigration clearance overseas.

Those who have changed their passports should update their MyICA QR codes before travelling, as codes containing outdated passport details will be rejected.
