A Hong Kong teenager was sentenced to eight years’ jail on 29 October 2026 for throwing acid at a Singaporean tourist in an attack for which he had been promised HK$10,000.
Anson Kew, now 19, was 17 when he attacked 36-year-old Jiang Wen in Wan Chai on 9 June 2025.
The South China Morning Post reported that High Court judge Andrew Chan Hing-wai said the attack had caused a “lifelong impact” on Jiang, who suffered second-degree burns.
Pleaded Guilty Earlier This Month
Kew pleaded guilty on 15 October to one count of throwing corrosive fluid with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, meaning serious physical injury.
Jiang was getting into a vehicle when Kew, dressed in black and wearing a mask, approached and threw the liquid at her.
He fled after the attack and turned himself in to police two days later, AsiaOne reported in its earlier coverage of the case.
Victim Needed Surgery and Skin Grafts
AsiaOne reported that Jiang suffered chemical burns covering about 10 per cent of her body.
She underwent emergency surgery and skin grafts in Hong Kong, where she spent about two months in hospital.
She subsequently returned to Singapore for further treatment.
