Taking a decent selfie can be a lot of hard work! But after reading this article, you will no longer need to take a million and one selfies in every different angle possible before finally getting the ‘perfect’ insta-worthy shot. This is because based on legit research findings, one side of our face actually looks better in photos! So this knowledge might be useful to all you Selfie Kings and Queens out there and just maybe, there won’t need to be too much effort put into your #selfie anymore.

A study conducted by researchers from Wake Forest University revealed that images of the left side of a face are rated and perceived to be more appealing than that of images of the right side of a face! Why is that so? It’s said that the left side of our face exhibit greater intensity of emotion and because of that, others are more attracted to it compared to the right side of a face which is said to lack emotion. Fascinating, isn’t it?

The left side of our face does indeed show more expression especially when we’re smiling and feeling happy because the right side of out brain which sole purpose is to govern the left side of our faces, controls all our emotions and expressions.

You’ll also be surprised to know that about 60% of paintings of portraits since the 14th century have subjects posed in such a way that the left side of their face is shown. This also includes the famous portrait of The Mona Lisa painted by artist Leonardo da Vinci. One celebrity that is known for her flawless ‘left-side of face poses’ is Arianna Grande whom, according to celebrity blogger Perez Hilton, demand to be filmed and photographed from the left!

However, according to a poll conducted, most women prefer the right side of their faces though psychologists did claim the left is more attractive. Some celebrities known for their right-side poses include Kim Kardashian, Angelina Jolie, Cara Delevigne and Kylie Jenner.

It probably does depend because there are factors that do influence our preferred angle and poses. They include blemish on our faces, a dimple, a beauty mark, the parting of our hair, a scar and even the profile of our nose!

Then again, I guess it’s human nature to be attracted to something that shows more emotion and expression because we could easily relate to such sincerity. Psychologists have also suggested that there’s a way we can hide our emotions from others and that’s by mere showing them the right side of our face!
