And much as I detest those fruits from Hell…

The results seem to be pretty legit.

A Study Shows That Eating Durian Can Control Bad Breath

According to research done by the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Chulalongkorn in Bangkok, Thailand, durians could potentially aid in the prevention of tooth decay and the reduction of bad breath, a notion that would have been unthinkable just months ago considering its negative ‘ties’.

According to reports, the research tapped into the potential of the durian as a mouth-cleanser. Obtaining a type of gel from the durian shell, the substance was then tested in lab rats in order to ascertain its potential to prevent bacteria growth. Thereafter, findings of the study revealed one thing:

“It could be employed as a natural antibacterial agent in oral hygiene products” to regulate the decay of teeth and periodontal disease.

Lest you’re unaware about periodontal disease, it’s primarily the swelling of the gums and bone support around the teeth.

Additionally, the study uncovered that the gel actually functioned the same as chlorhexidine. According to Science Direct, chlorhexidine is an anti-septic that’s found in loads of mouth wash products.

Also, the gel functioned to decrease compounds that entail stinky breath.

Well, well, what do you know?

The fruit that’s famed for its less-than-ideal smell can actually help reduce bad breath in your mouth.

Oh, the irony.

Durians

Despite the findings, however, do not be mistaken.

Downing a durian will NOT make your mouth smell like paradise.

No, it will just stink like ****.

Rather, it’s a substance found in the durian shell that’s believed to aid the cause of love, thunder and bad breath.

So take your durians with ample moderation, unless you want your mouth to reek like the toilet over at a hawker centre…

Which ain’t pretty, I can assure you about that.

But hey, with what the findings unearthed…

Having a durian breath mint right after durians might not be so far-fetched after all.

More durians for you to enjoy too, should that possibility come to light. 😉
