There’s always this one girl you know who still sleeps with a couple of soft toys on her bed.

If you were to ask her about it, she might get a bit defensive at first, but when she finally lets her guard down, she’ll tell you that being able to cuddle her one-legged teddy bear from her childhood or her Hello Kitty plush toy from her school days just makes her feel safe and extra special.

We won’t get into talking about the other guy friend of yours who talks in his sleep, coz that’s a story for another day.

Anyway, back to the soft toy issue. If you’re one of the people with your teddies in bed, you don’t have to feel awkward when you’re asked about it anymore.

Why? We found out that it apparently, well, beneficial sia.

The Benefits You’re Reaping From Your Soft Toy Habit

So, there was finally a study conducted to see if it was really good to sleep with teddies, or if it was just a very bad habit.

And guess what? A bunch of people who researched on this very issue from the UV University of Amsterdam found that not only does touching a soft toy give you extra health benefits, but it ALSO helps you sort out your angst issues.

Wow.

(Though if you think about it, it does make sense)

Remember how when you broke off with your gf or worse, BFFs in school and it was so tough to get through the days and weeks in school? And every night you hugged on to a squishy toy just to calm you down?

Well, guess what? That actually did work miracles for you.

As far as the case goes for small kids and even babies, the stuffed items work for them as a transitional item.

In other words, when they go through the stress of separating from their parents – e.g. sleeping separately in their own nursery, holding onto a soft toy works to both comfort and soothe them, which is a very good thing (duh!).

Why do adults use soft toys still? Well, everyone has his or her own reason for doing it. According to a licensed therapist, it’s a sign of you needing something in life – e.g. you’re still looking for the ONE and this is well, an emotional cover for it.

For others, it’s just the comfort of holding your fav soft toy while you sleep lah.

So, you still sleep with your soft toys in bed or not? Some of us here used to, but of course, adulthood kicked in and we threw our soft buddies outta the house. Mostly it’s due to embarrassment, but now that you know there are benefits to it, what think you?

Maybe, just maybe, we should keep one or two soft toys on standby for those nights when it’s extra sad or even when you just need to snuggle.

And happy faces with beady eyes and a furry exterior is definitely the best bit of them all, if you ask us!
