Durian, just like Instagram, is like a drug.
Nothing beats the creamy, custard-coated fruit which melts in your mouth like butter. If you’re on your bed shaking because you need your durian fix, well, I’ve got good news for you.
Durian season is back
So, we thought that the durian season is ending soon.
Apparently not.
The second wave of durian season is coming back this National Day weekend. Not only will you have a wide variety to choose from, but they will be cheaper as well.
In an interview with CNA Lifestyle, Kelvin Tan, director of durian-retailer cafe 99 old trees, said the best time to buy durian is when “the prices are at the lowest, because that’s when the harvest is at its peak.”
This means that Singaporeans will have “plenty of durians to choose from.”
Tan added that they are expecting a “good haul” from their Penang farm and that the best durians will come in during Singapore’s National Day long weekend.
Just so you know, there’s a super long weekend from 9 August to 12 August 2019. Yeah, four days.
Singapore’s favourite durian variety
As Tan says, Mao Shan Wang is an “undisputed Singapore favourite” when it comes to the King of Fruit.
“We all know how popular Mao Shan Wangs are…that’s why it’s also important to know the basics of choosing a good durian, just in case some seller tries to pass off another durian as a Mao Shan Wang”, Tan said.
Well, that’s explain why even Old Chang Kee is coming out with MSW puffs.
Price
In an exchange with AsiaOne, 99 Old Trees said, “the price of Mao Shan Wang Grade A will range between $16 to $18 per kg”.
They added that this durian season is expected to last till the end of August.
What better way to celebrate Singapore’s independence than by devouring some delectable durian?
