Several readers alerted Shin Min Daily News about a white Mercedes sedan stopped at the intersection with its engine still running.
Police had set up cordons around the area, with many officers and traffic police conducting investigations.
Eyewitness Accounts
When reporters arrived at the scene, a member of the public, Mr. Huang (name transliterated from Mandarin), 28, revealed that he was driving behind the Mercedes when he suddenly saw the driver and two passengers get out of the car and run away in different directions.
“There were no police chasing them at that time. I don’t know why they suddenly stopped and ran away,” he said.
Mr. Huang added that although he wasn’t very close to the scene, he could vaguely see the three men fleeing in opposite directions.
“One person dashed across the road toward the shops opposite, while another ran to the left.”
Mr. Fang (name transliterated from Mandarin), 33, a fruit shop employee, said he heard continuous honking from across the street before seeing a man in his 30s running past the front of his shop.
“He was running very fast. The Mercedes was blocking the intersection, and the police arrived about 20 minutes later.”
