Soldiers in Spain Found Abandoned Corpses in Old Folks Home

Once upon a time, the location worst-hit by the coronavirus was China, which was the epicentre of the outbreak and where many believe the virus stemmed from.

This is no longer the case as Italy has caught up in recent weeks in terms of both confirmed cases and deaths.

The problem is, the world has been ravaged by the high contagious virus so much that what happens behind the scenes isn’t always apparent.

Soldiers in Spain Found Abandoned Corpses in Old Folks Home

A few months ago, you would’ve never guessed that people’s dead bodies would’ve been abandoned left and right, but now, this is the reality in Italy.

Soldiers who were tasked with disinfecting care homes in Spain in line with efforts to curb the spread of the COVID-19 have made grisly discoveries: abandoned bodies.

The corpses of victims of the coronavirus have been discovered in the same homes as loved ones who are still alive.

In fact, the coronavirus victims’ bodies that have been found at homes visited by the Military Emergency Unit (UME) might lead to an investigation by prosecutors to find out if crimes had taken place.

Spanish Military Deployed To Focus On Elderly Care Homes

The Spanish military had been deployed to visit elderly care homes at the end of last week.

State prosecutors have since announced that they will be looking into a Madrid care home where as many as 17 people have died.

Regional health chiefs have confirmed that 21 people died at a care home in Alcoy near Alicante named Domus Vi.

However, the exact location wherein the bodies have been abandoned have not been identified.

Spain’s Defence Minister Margarita Robles said, “The army, during some visits, has seen elderly people absolutely abandoned, if not dead in their beds.”

It’s troubling that there are so many sick people in Italy that they aren’t able to provide them with proper burials.

However, Italy is reportedly trying their best to care for their pensioners.

She also assures the public that most of the elderly care homes are doing a good job of caring for their residents.

It was added that punishments will be dished out to those who fail to do so.

The defence minister said, “We are going to be implacable and forceful when it comes to ensuring our pensioners receive the proper treatment in these residences.”

Mass Deaths In Care Homes From COVID-19

Unfortunately, Monte Hermoso wasn’t the first OAP care home that experienced “mass deaths” due to the COVID-19.

In fact, politicians in Madrid have come clean and revealed that as many as 20% of its elderly care homes have cases of the coronavirus.

That is an extremely alarming number and we sincerely pray for the safety of the people of Italy, especially those that are the most vulnerable.
