There are many things you would expect to find at a rubbish bin, including food waste and other discarded objects.
A baby is not one of them.
Abandoned Newborn Baby Found Alive In Rubbish Chute At Bedok North
A newborn baby has been found alive and abandoned in a bin at the bottom of a rubbish chute at Block 534 Bedok North Street 3 this morning.
The newborn was wrapped in a plastic bag and was found huddled among other bags filled with rubbish and food packaging.
The people who chanced upon the baby were cleaners who had arrived to clear the bin at around 8am-9am.
Bloodstains could be spotted on the bag, as seen in photographs taken of the infant.
A passer-by named Mr Lim Yok Liang, 72 spoke to The Straits Times at 9.20am.
He was on the way to a nearby coffee shop to have breakfast at the time and said, “I saw an ambulance at the open-air carpark under the block. There was a policeman carrying a baby, wrapped in a cloth.”
“The baby was not crying. It looked like it was still breathing.”
The newborn baby was brought to the hospital via an ambulance.
Police Making Rounds
The next step for the police would be to find the suspect. Hence, the police were seen going to every floor of the block.
One officer was spotted inside a unit on the 12th floor where an elderly woman could be seen in the kitchen.
We sincerely hope that the Singapore Police Force can get to the bottom of this.
Between 2009 and 2018, 16 abandoned babies were found in Singapore.
