Abortion.
It’s a very commonly debated issue that is highly sensitive in today’s society.
Even though there are countries that legalise abortion, there are still many countries out there that do not because of certain ethical issues.
Kenya is a country where abortion is illegal unless there is a certain emergency situation in which the mother’s life is in danger.
As a result, when unwanted pregnancies occur, some mothers may choose to risk their lives by going to black-market abortion clinics to abort their baby, abandon them, or even worse, kill them.
And one way that has surfaced is by feeding them carbonated drinks instead of milk.
Unwanted Pregnancies
According to Daily Mail, the mothers have chosen to feed their babies drinks like Coca Cola, ginger beer and other fizzy drinks.
This stems from the fact that babies need the nutrients that are found in milk in order to grow and survive. Since carbonated drinks have hardly any nutrition in them, babies are more likely to starve to death within a few days.
This was discovered after reports came in about a woman who allegedly fed her baby daughter ginger beer, causing her to suffer from a severe overdose that eventually took away her life. A photograph of the girl hunched in a foetal position was even shared.
Sadly, abandonment and the murder of babies have become so common that workers have been discovering these babies at rubbish dumps and rivers almost every single day because that’s how many babies are abandoned each day.
Other than killing their babies this way, some mothers give birth to their babies in public restrooms and try to flush them down the toilet.
It is very unfortunate that the mothers have to resort to doing all of these and we hope that the situation will become better in the future.
