The average person spends about one to two years of their life pooping. That’s one to two years of your life that you’re never getting back because you were taking a dump. And we know you’ve all wondered about this before: when exactly is the best time to poop? Well today, we’re going to reveal the answer to you.
Gastroenterologists recommend that the best time to poop is in the morning, right after you wake up. While you sleep, your small intestine and colon spend the time absorbing nutrients from the food that you ate the night before. 90% of the digestion and absorption of food occurs in the small intestine while the remaining 10% occurs in the large intestine. By the time you wake up, your body is ready to get rid of all the waste and toxins produced.
Other than taking a dump in the morning, more critically is that you stick to a regular timing. Your bowels love routine and going at the same time everyday will ensure that you have happy pooping sessions. If you are more accustomed to having your sessions in the afternoon, that’s perfectly fine–as long as you stick to the same timing everyday and avoid deviating from it.
Since everyone is different, there is also no set “normal” when it comes to passing stools. What may be normal for you may not be a norm for others. On average, it can range from as often as three times a day to just twice a week.
What happens then, if regularity is not practiced or stools remain in the body for too long? The bacteria in the body will turn the stools to gas and you’ll end up feeling bloated and gassy. This also leads to issues such as constipation and irritable bowel syndrome, which we all know are a pain in the ass (literally).
The bottom line: Poop as early in the day as you can at the same time.
