Lest you’re not aware, last Saturday, something unfortunate happened to a Singaporean son.
Actor Aloysius Pang, who’s an armament technician in the SAF, sustained serious injury in New Zealand when he was serving his ICT there while repairing a Singapore Self-Propelled Howitzer.
He underwent surgery and was being monitored in the high dependency unit.
It was also revealed by his management yesterday that he would be assessed on whether he needs another round of surgery.
Today, he went through the second surgery and is “currently stable and he is breathing on his own”.
Here’s what has transpired since yesterday’s reports.
Injuries to His Chest and Abdominal Areas
According to a new statement by Mindef, Aloysius has sustained injuries to his chest and abdominal areas. Here’s Mindef’s new statement in full:
Lest you can’t read it:
At approximately 1405hrs (SG time) on 19 January 2019 (Saturday), a Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Operationally Ready National Serviceman, Corporal First Class (National Service) [CFC (NS)] Pang Wei Chong, Aloysius, 28, was carrying out repair works inside the Singapore Self-Propelled Howitzer (SSPH) at Waiouru Training Area, New Zealand when he sustained injuries to his chest and abdominal areas.
CFC (NS) Pang underwent abdominal surgery on the same evening at Waikato Hospital, Hamilton, New Zealand, which was completed at 2340hrs (SG time). A follow-up relook surgery which was planned for was successfully completed at 1100hrs (SG time) today. A medical team from Singapore is working with the New Zealand team to provide the best possible care for CFC (NS) Pang.
The Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) has made arrangements for CFC (NS) Pang’s next of kin to be flown to New Zealand. CFC (NS) Pang’s mother has visited CFC (NS) Pang and spoken to him in hospital; his father and brother will arrive this evening (SG time). They were accompanied by family liaison officers from the SAF.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the incident.
MINDEF and the SAF are assisting CFC (NS) Pang’s family during this period.
Doing Well, Alert and Breathing on his Own
According to TODAYonline, the chief of trauma and acute care surgery at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, who’s working remotely for the NSman, said that Aloysius is now in stable condition, and “his vitals are stable and he is awake, alert and he is breathing on his own, not requiring any mechanical ventilation.”
They are now planning to stabilise his condition before bringing him back to Singapore.
Here’s a video that explains his condition:
We here at Goody Feed wish Aloysius a speedy recovery!
