A middle-aged woman involved in an extramarital affair with a married man became enraged after being denied a meeting with the latter’s wife.
She grabbed the steering wheel in anger, causing the vehicle to swing left and turn turtle.

She has now been sentenced to one year of mandatory treatment.
The defendant, Zarinah Binte Hassim, 53, previously pleaded guilty to one count of reckless endangerment of others’ safety.
A judge at the State Courts issued the above ruling on Friday, 7 Mar 2025.
Details of the Incident
According to court documents, the defendant was in an extramarital affair with Ismail bin Hasan at the time of the incident.
On the evening of 7 Apr 2024, Ismail was driving with the defendant in the passenger seat.
Around 11:00 PM, while driving along Jurong West Avenue 2 toward the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE), Ismail asked her where she wanted to go.
The defendant asked Ismail to take her to meet his wife, intending to reveal their affair.
However, Ismail refused her request and insisted on taking her home instead, which then led her to become furious.

As the car travelled on the PIE toward the Kranji Expressway, near lamppost 17S5, the enraged defendant suddenly grabbed the steering wheel and pulled it forcefully toward herself.
Ismail lost control of the steering wheel, causing the car to veer left and flip over.
Afterward, Ismail managed to escape through the car door, but the defendant was trapped inside.
Injuries and Medical Condition
A driver behind them witnessed the accident and immediately called for an ambulance.
Around 11:25 PM, the Civil Defence Force personnel arrived at the scene.

They rescued the defendant from the car, and both individuals were taken to the National University Hospital.
According to medical reports, Ismail suffered abrasions, lacerations, and bruises.
On the other hand, the defendant suffered from more severe injuries.
Her injuries include a right hip posterior dislocation, left eyebrow arch fracture, nasal bone fracture, multiple facial abrasions, and loss of her upper front teeth.

The Sentencing
In court on 23 Dec 2024, the defendant’s lawyer stated that she had been suffering from bipolar disorder for a long time and had been receiving treatment.
The lawyer requested that the judge allow the defendant to undergo a mandatory treatment assessment.
After completing the assessment, the judge sentenced her to one year of mandatory treatment for her bipolar disorder.
