A couple forgot to turn off their air conditioner before travelling overseas, causing water damage to neighbouring units.
The affected residents are dealing with water droplets forming on floors, ceilings, and walls.
Extensive Damage Discovered by Neighbours
According to Shin Min Daily News, the incident happened at Block 102A, Punggol Field, in a unit on the 12th floor.

Mr. Zhang (name transliterated from Mandarin), a 44-year-old living on the 12th floor, said in an interview that last Friday morning (18 Apr 2025), he saw his upstairs neighbour coming down to knock on his next-door neighbour’s door.
He approached to find out what was happening and learned that the upstairs resident was experiencing water droplets forming on their floor.
Mr. Zhang checked the security camera footage outside his door and discovered that the couple next door had left home early Tuesday morning (15 Apr 2025) with four suitcases, suggesting they had gone on an overseas trip.
Feeling concerned, Mr. Zhang decided to check his bedroom, which shares a wall with the neighbouring unit. After moving his cabinet, he was shocked to find the entire wall covered with water droplets.
Parts of the wall had developed mould due to the moisture, and the paint had started to bubble and peel off.
“My wife and I spent an entire day moving furniture out of the room, with some pieces relocated to the living room to prevent further damage,” he said.
He now wipes the wall twice daily and worries about additional damage to the floor and walls. There are also safety concerns about possible electrical short circuits due to the moisture in the power outlets.
Multiple Units Affected by the Running Air Conditioner
The reporter observed that Mr. Zhang had placed several pieces of cloth in the room to “absorb water,” which could be wrung out after becoming soaked.

He also revealed that his downstairs neighbour’s ceiling was similarly showing water droplets, while the upstairs unit was experiencing the most severe effects, with large patches of water appearing on the floor daily.
Mrs. Qiu (name transliterated from Mandarin), a 41-year-old living on the 13th floor, told reporters that her domestic helper had mentioned the room feeling cold and the floor being damp as early as last Thursday (17 Apr 2025).
She didn’t think much of it until she noticed the helper frequently wiping the floor. Upon checking the room herself, she discovered water continuously collecting on the floor.
Her husband, Mr. Qiu (name transliterated from Mandarin), a 51-year-old air conditioning maintenance professional, assessed the situation and determined it was likely caused by the downstairs air conditioner running for an extended period.
He tried knocking on the door to communicate with the neighbours, but received no response.

“Our wardrobe has also been damaged due to the dampness. Our helper has to wipe the floor every half hour. We can only keep windows and fans on to maintain ventilation in the house,” he said.
Mr. Qiu explained that the only way to stop the situation from worsening would be to cut off the electricity supply to the neighbouring unit, but this would be illegal.
“We can’t just do that without permission. If this continues, it could become so serious that even the floor tiles might come loose,” he added.
