When it comes to shopping in Singapore, it is no doubt that the brick and mortar shopping is slowly on a decline and everyone is moving on to online shops instead.
However, we presume that future of online businesses in Singapore are about to change with Tmall entering the market soon, because that’s like Taobao coming direct to Singapore!
Here’s what you should know about Alibaba’s Tmall coming to Singapore! Shopaholics, it’s time to rejoice!
1. It’s going to be launching sales channel on different countries in Asia
When Alibaba decides to expand their business, they make sure they go all out. Alibaba has invested heavily in Southeast Asia and customers can expect new sales channels in countries like Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
2. All your shopping needs will be taken care of
If you are one who has always experienced problems shopping from Taobao due logistical barriers, fear not for Tmall as they have got it all covered for you.
Tmall will be providing end-to-end solutions including logistics, payment, and localisation support catering to each local market’s needs. Meaning, shopping has never gotten easier!
3. You’ll still have to read Chinese
Sadly, you’ll still have to be able to read Chinese while shopping on Tmall. Still, you can always download Google translate to translate the whole site to English for you!
Might be a good time to brush up on your Chinese before they officially step into Singapore too!
4. You’ll need a active Chinese bank account
Another drawback of shopping on Tmall would be that users should have an active Chinese payment method i.e. Alipay. However, you should be happy to know that Alibaba payment affiliate Ant Financial is also expanding heavily in the region through investments and joint ventures.
Very soon, all the shopaholics will be able to own an acccount with Ant Financial and pay for their items through that platform.
5. They promise better product quality
Even though some of the items on Tmall might be pricer as compared to those on Taobao, the items are always assured with the best quality! After all, the sellers are all established sellers and not any fly-by-night seller.
6. You can expect a variety of products sold
Other than clothes and accessories, you can also expect food and household items to be sold on Tmall – especially those that cannot easily be found in Singapore. Yay to globalisation!
7. The date when they’ll officially be here is still not revealed
All that is known so far is that the regions they’re going in are Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Taiwan: obviously just to the Chinese-speaking regions.
In the meantime…still no news about Amazon Singapore, yet.
