Snake sightings isn’t an uncommon thing in Singapore anymore.

And according to wildlife experts, it’s something that’s expected to become even more common in the future.

Which explains why netizens aren’t surprised to hear about this 3m-long python in Bishan.

The snake had also reportedly slithered its way to a void deck.

The Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (Acres) and the police were alerted to the sighting.

The Acres team received the call at around 7.30 am, according to Acres’ deputy chief executive officer (CEO) Mr Kalai Vanan.

They managed to rescue the python at around 8.40 am and said it’ll be safely relocated to a more suitable habitat.

Please Keep Your Pets Safe

If you’re staying in Bishan and you have a pet, keep it safe.

There were a couple of snake sightings in Bishan and the snake looked like it had just finished swallowing a meal.

But at least this time, no injuries were reported, though we’re not sure if anyone has lost a bird.

Previously, A Lady Was Injured By A Wild Python

Just earlier this month on 9 Oct, a woman was bitten by a python on the third storey of her HDB block in Sembawang.

She was out looking for her cat which went missing when the python bit her.

Thinking that her cat had scratched her leg, she kicked out on instincts before taking a closer look.

Upon seeing that it wasn’t her cat but a big scary snake, she immediately ran away for help.

After failing to get help from her neighbour, she climbed back to the third storey to her own home, dripping blood from her wound.

Her family members immediately called for an ambulance.

The neighbour was the one to alert the police to the incident. When she finally opened the door, she saw blood and thought a fight happened outside her house.

The pest control was called after the police arrived and understood the situation and they managed to capture the snake safely after flushing it out with hot water.

What Should You Do If You Spot a Python:

Given that Singapore is adding more green spaces to Singapore, Acres said that could be the reason why we see more of such snake sightings in Singapore.

“Singapore is creating a lot of greenery and it’s never going to be just butterflies and flowers. There’s going to be lizards and snakes.”

Here’s what you should do if you come across a python:

  • If seen in nature spaces (parks, nature reserves, canals, deep drains, etc), leave them alone.
  • If within a built environment (i.e. your home, near your home, etc), call the Acres 24-hour hotline: 9783 7782
  • Don’t go near the python for #OOTDs because they might not be poisonous but they can give you a nasty bite like Raticate
  • Don’t kill it; it’s forbidden.

Whatever it is, just remember this: once you spotted one, keep calm and move to a safe area – even if you’re someone who likes to “eat snake” #sorrystillcannotresistthatjoke
