Lest you’re unaware, the late Aloysius Pang didn’t just entertain us on television and the Internet.
Back in 2016, a cosplay-themed movie Young & Fabulous was out, but let’s face it: it starred Joyce Chu (Malaysia chabor), and during that year, everyone was going gaga over her and so, you might or might not have forgotten that Aloysius played one of the leads in the movie.
We’ve once published a review about it in 2016 then, and our feedback was that it’s worth a watch for people who are looking to understand youngsters, or simply youngsters in general.
In other words, it’s a movie not for the laughs but for understanding young people’s world.
With a star-studded cast like Quan Yifeng and Gurmit Singh, the movie eventually grossed a total of SGD$1.3 million—a relatively good result for a local film. It was one of the Top 10 Asian Movies in Singapore in 2016 and was also released in Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam.
According to an interview, it’s revealed that Aloysius broke a blood vessel in an eye on the second day of filming, but he continued the filming—the reddened eye was eventually touched up during post production.
Movie in Cinema Again in Memory of Aloysius Pang
As a tribute to the late Singaporean son, its distributors Encore Film announced that they would be re-releasing the film in selected cinemas from 29 January 2019.
The cinemas are
- Golden Village Plaza
- Golden Village Tampines
- Cathay Cineplex AMK Hub
- Cathay Cineplex Parkway Parade
- Shaw Theatres Waterway Point
- WE Cinemas Clementi
Here’s something even more interesting: the film is distributed by Encore Films and Golden Village, and it’s heartening to know that most cineplexes in Singapore are together in this, as they’ve sponsored the venue for the airing for free.
The proceeds from the tickets will go to Aloysius’ family.

YOUNG & FABULOUS – IN MEMORY OF ALOYSIUS PANG
Singapore, 27th January 2019 – Encore Films will be re-releasing the local movie, Young & Fabulous, in cinemas from 29th January 2019, in memory of Aloysius Pang. Aloysius was the lead actor in Young & Fabulous, a local movie that was released in 2016. The movie grossed a total of S$1.3 million and was one of the Top 10 Asian Movies in Singapore in 2016. The movie was subsequently released in Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam.
Said producer and director Ms Joyce Lee, “Aloysius is a dear friend, and the news of his passing was hard for me. We worked very well together for Young & Fabulous, and I treat him like my younger brother. I wanted to do something for him, and with his family’s blessings, we’ve decided to re-release Young & Fabulous on the big screens for Singaporeans who wished to pay tribute to his great work. All proceeds after third party costs (if any) for the screenings will go to Pang’s family. Aloysius’s wish was to excel in his acting profession and get more recognition for his work. I hope I can do my part to help him fulfil his wish. I am very appreciative of the venue sponsorship from our cinema partners, Golden Village Multiplex, Cathay Cineplexes, Shaw Theatres and WE Cinemas.”
Founder of Noontalk Media, Mr Dasmond Koh, added, “This initiative is in line with our plans for Aloysius, I hope we can all focus on his past work. His participation in Young & Fabulous was a key milestone in his career, and I hope more people can get to enjoy this movie.”
YOUNG & FABULOUS is a coming-of-age story of a group of teenage friends—Royston (played by Aloysius Pang), Violet (played by Joyce Chu), and Hao Ren (played by Joshua Tan)—who strive against all challenges and obstacles to pursue their dreams. On their journey of self-discovery, they also learn the meaning of friendship, the different perspectives in parent-child and teacher-student relationships, and ultimately the need to have the courage to stand up for what they believe in. The film encompasses elements of the youths’ everyday jargon, lifestyle, and aspirations, and also covers the interesting issues in different relationships that can engage people of all ages everywhere. The film also features Gurmit Singh, Henry Thia, Quan Yi Fong, Jeffrey Xu, Jordan Ng, Benjamin Kheng, Narelle Kheng, Jonathan Chua, and Sandra Tang.
