Actor Aloysius Pang, who was seriously injured in New Zealand last Saturday, has had to go through additional surgery after his condition worsened.
Aloysius, a Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Operationally Ready National Serviceman, Corporal First Class (National Service) [CFC (NS)] Armament Technician from the 268th Battalion Singapore Artillery, was repairing a Singapore Self-Propelled Howitzer (pictured below) last Saturday when he sustained serious injury.
It was not known how he had sustained the injury, but Dasmond Koh, his manager in NoonTalk Media, mentioned in a press conference that Aloysius’ “abdomen and chest were pressed down by something.”
He was subsequently transferred to the Battalion Casualty Station at 1425hrs (SG time) where he was assessed and stabilised by the Medical Officer, before being evacuated to Waiouru Camp Medical Centre at 1450hrs (SG time) where treatment was continued.
This was the initial MINDEF statement on the incident:

Tan Tock Seng Hospital’s chief of trauma in New Zealand

Exercise Thunder Warrior
Exercise Thunder Warrior is an annual artillery live-firing exercise that has been jointly-conducted by New Zealand and Singapore since 1997.
This year’s exercise, which began on 5 Jan 2019 involving over 500 personnel, is being held in Waiouru, a small town in the Ruapehu District, in New Zealand’s Manawatu-Wanganui region, and is slated to end on 2 Feb 2019.
We wish you all the best in your recovery, Aloysius.
Update: On 2:49 p.m. today, Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen posted this update on his Facebook Page:
Ministry of Defence, Singapore (MINDEF) has put out information about the condition of CFC (NS) Aloysius Pang, who is in ICU in New Zealand. I have just spoken with Dr Teo Li Tserng to get an update on CFC (NS) Pang’s condition. We flew Dr Teo, Chief of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, to New Zealand to assist in the care.
CFC (NS) Pang’s condition is very serious and presently he needs artificial life support of his lungs, kidneys and heart. Dr Teo told me that surgeons and staff at the Waikato Hospital – a regional trauma center – are doing all they possibly can to keep up the support and improve his condition. Coincidentally, the head surgeon responsible for CFC (NS) Pang’s care and Dr Teo know each other, having participated in international conferences together. This rapport is useful and I told Dr Teo to convey Singapore’s appreciation to the doctors and staff there for their untiring efforts, and to let us know if there is anything else they need to help CFC (NS) Pang.
Even as the doctors do all they can, our prayers go to CFC (NS) Pang to turn this difficult corner, as well as to his family members for strength.
