Pipes will burst from time to time, and they can definitely cause quite a bit of trouble and inconvenience for a number of reasons.

But to make things even worse, imagine if your burst pipe starts spewing out sh*t instead of just dirty water.

Residents staying at Block 639 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6 had to deal with exactly that, when they were faced with the horror of having a pool of poop at their void deck.

For two whole days.

Burst Pipe Spews Out Faeces

A reader wrote in to Mothership about the incident on 4 September, as the situation had become unbearable for residents.

The reader was also kind enough to send in some photos, so brace yourselves, as it is not a pretty sight:

I think I might have just lost my appetite for the day.

As you can see, the faeces and toilet paper spewed out from a burst pipe, and it dirtied the entire area surrounding it.

It turns out that incident occurred on Tuesday, 3 September, but nothing was done about it for two whole days, and residents started to get really affected it.

Which is understandable, of course. Imagine returning back home after a long day of work and being greeted with the sight of faeces at your void deck.

Not to mention the foul smell.

Cleaned Up By The Town Council After Two Days

The Ang Mo Kio Town Council has responded to queries from Mothership, and said that they were aware of the incident.

The area was cleaned up by Saturday morning.

The town council has also temporarily diverted the waste into a manhole to prevent a reoccurrence of this incident.

Block 639 at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6 is actually under the Home Improvement Programme, also known as HIP for short.

These HDB flats will undergo major upgrading twice during their 99-year lease.

The first round of upgrading will take place around the 30-year mark, to resolve common maintenance problems such as spalling concrete. The second round will take place at around the 60- to 70-year mark.

You can check if your flat is up for HIP here.

Meanwhile, at least those poor residents won’t have to suffer from the smell of faeces every time they go under their block.

However, the cause of the choke is still unknown, and the town council is currently conducting investigations.
