If you haven’t heard about Amos Yee for months, it’s not that you no longer care—it’s that Amos Yee has indeed been quiet since January 2016.

According to Amos Yee’s Facebook Page that has over 36,000 Likes, he has been “on the run” from the police ever since he was called up for investigations over a sensitive blog post. From December 2015 to January 2016, he has been actively posting on his Facebook Page, allegedly showing how he managed to hide from the police, and challenging them to find him.

But ever since 12 January 2016, he stopped posting in Facebook altogether, but was still active on Twitter. However, from 23 January 2016 onwards, he stopped posting in Twitter as well.

No one knew exactly what happened, until a few days ago.

On 24 March 2016, a Facebook Page called Mary Toh sought to know the whereabouts of Amos Yee. Mary Toh is Amos Yee’s mother, and has always been supporting Amos Yee throughout the ordeal of his trial and imprisonment.

Here’s the post.

I have been too sad to speak up ever since Amos left for the past 3 months but I’m feeling more and more helpless now. …

However, here’s what netizens have found out

  • Mary Toh has her own personal Facebook profile here: https://www.facebook.com/mary.toh.927?fref=ts . Why is there a need to create a Facebook Page? Is it created by other people?
  • The bank account number and Paypal account held by Amos Yee are highlighted in the post. Is it a subtle way to seek for donation by Amos Yee?
  • If Mary Toh is seriously concerned about Amos Yee’s finances, then why not do the transfer herself instead of publicly highlighting the details?

No one knows for sure whether this account is real or not, but a day later, the Facebook Page showed evidence that it is indeed run by Mary Toh.

One thing to note is that in her personal profile, we’re unable to see that, either due to her privacy setting or that it’s Photoshopped.

Ten minutes later, she posted an apology and emphasized that her objective was to find Amos Yee, and not to seek for more donation.

I am sorry if my post published yesterday has caused any misunderstanding or misinterpretation. I was merely trying to…
