You’ve heard of Queen Victoria, but who’s the king of Hong Kong?
Undoubtedly, it’s Hong Kong’s Heavenly King, Andy Lau.
Not this Andy Lau:
This Andy Lau:
He’s so famous, that even someone like me, who don’t know a single thing about Mandopop or Cantopop, knows just how powerful he is and that he’s reigned as king for decades. Aunties swoon at the very mention of him!
I’d now expect these aunties to scramble faster than they do when trying to get a seat on the MRT to get tickets to Andy Lau’s concert here in Singapore.
A Long, Long Wait
Yes, you read it right. Andy Lau’s finally coming back to Singapore again after what feels like forever.
You must be shaking in excitement right now if you grew up watching Andy Lau’s movies and singing along to his songs badly in karaoke.
Since his last concert tour in Singapore in 2008, it’s been 11 years since he set foot on our shores to perform.
I can’t imagine how fans must be feeling having to wait for that long for their idol to come back here – but then again, 11 years really does seem like forever to me only because it’s more than half of my age, oops.
He’ll be returning for the My Love Andy Lau World Tour with 4 shows in Singapore from 25 to 28 September, so be sure to save those dates!
You probably won’t want to miss this tour if you’ve been keeping up with Andy Lau, for who knows, it might be another 10-year long wait until his next tour.
The grand tour began in Hong Kong in December last year, with all 20 shows being sold out right after sales started before you could even blink. Just be prepared for the same fate for the Singapore shows…
Expect Only The Best
Usually, concerts in the artists’ home country would be better than those that they hold overseas, for the stages are bound to be bigger and better without the additional logistics and costs of setting up as compared to if it was brought elsewhere.
But fret not, the show in Singapore will be nothing less than a grand spectacle fit for a king, just like how it was done in the Hong Kong run.
If you think you’ve seen big stages at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, I don’t think you’ve seen what might just be the biggest and grandest one yet.
My Love Andy Lau World Tour will take place on a huuuuge four-sided stage that has 60 lifts and two moving catwalk stage extensions. So extra!
As crazy as that already sounds, there are even more tricks up Andy’s sleeve – there will be a giant projection screen covering more than half of the ceiling, on which special projections will be shown of various artworks and visual effects. There’s even going to be a hand-drawn picture, courtesy of Andy’s 7-year-old daughter Hanna. So cute!
In order to make this possible and bring the entire concert experience to Singapore without sacrificing anything, almost 40 containers will be shipped over from Hong Kong. Now that’s called dedication.
He’ll also belt out both Cantonese and Mandarin hits, including You Are My Woman and Forget Love Potion, so hey, maybe your favourite song of his will make it into the setlist.
But First, Time For Ticketing…
Seeing as how his Hong Kong shows sold out at lightning speed, there’s no doubt that Singapore’s shows will be any different.
It’s going to be crazyyyy trying to get tickets to see the legend himself in our country after more than a decade, so you’d better start gearing up for the dreaded ticketing war.
Maybe you’d wanna start by getting yourself an American Express credit card.
Priority sales will start on 30 May, 10 am for American Express Centurion Card holders, and will end at 11:59 pm.
As for Platinum Card holders, it begins on the same day at 4 pm and ends at 11:59 pm as well.
If you have any other eligible American Express cards, you may book your tickets starting from 31 May, 10 am until 11:59 pm on that day.
And if you’re unfortunate enough to not be an American Express card holder…
You can get your tickets during the general sales from 10:00 am on 1 June.
Tickets are priced from $368 to $278, but it definitely seems worth it for something as spectacular as this. Also, it’s Andy Lau!
May the odds be ever in your favour.
