Unlike those 200 tapioca pearls you ingest every day, rejection is often tough to swallow.

It’s bad enough after a first date, but if the love of your life breaks up with you, it’s going to hurt.

People handle break ups differently, of course. Some go on a holiday, some try dating others too soon, and some eat several tubs of ice cream to fill that tiny hole in their heart.

Even if you manage to deal with the pain, jealousy will rear its ugly head when you find out that your former lover has a new bae.

And what do you do then?

Start slashing everyone, of course.

Everything We Know So Far About The Man Who Slashed Ex’s New Boyfriend in Ang Mo Kio

A 38-year-old Malaysian man has been arrested after allegedly slashing his ex-girlfriend’s new lover in the head with a vegetable knife on Friday morning (28 Aug).

According to Lianhe Wanbao, the incident occurred in a flat at Block 534 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10.

The perpetrator and his ex-girlfriend reportedly live in the same flat; not exactly the arrangement you’d suggest for a separated couple.

One day, the man found out that his former lover had brought her new flame home, which did not please him, to say the least.

At this point, the man had a few options:

  1. Accept that life comes with pain and difficulties, find a way to deal with his jealousy, and leave the couple alone
  2. Watch 500 Days of Summer on Netflix, cry for seven hours, and leave the couple alone
  3. Literally anything but attack them with a vegetable knife

So naturally, the man confronted them, and a heated argument ensued.

The man then grabbed a vegetable knife from the kitchen, and it wasn’t because he had a sudden urge to cook.

The jealous ex-lover started attacking the pair with the vegetable knife, slashing the new boyfriend in the forehead.

The woman’s 40-year-old sister was also injured in the process, sustaining a cut on her right arm.

Fled to Carpark

The three of them – the woman, her new boyfriend, and her sister – then fled the house and ran to a nearby carpark, knocking on neighbours’ doors to ask for help on their way down.

One neighbour who left his house to investigate the commotion saw the new boyfriend’s face covered in blood as he sat at the carpark.

“I quickly rushed down with a box of tissue”, the neighbour said.

A few other residents had also gone down to help, with some of them bringing chairs and tissue for the victims.

Alarmingly, as they waited for the police and ambulance to arrive, the man who attacked them followed them down.

He wasn’t holding a knife, but he kept gesticulating at them. He didn’t approach them, presumably because the victims were surrounded by people at this point.

The woman’s new lover, a 36-year-old man, was left with a 10cm long gash on his head. He, along with the woman’s sister, were rushed to Sengkang General Hospital.

Police investigations are ongoing.

How to Deal with Jealousy After a Break-Up

If you were to go to a relationship therapist, the first thing they’d tell you is that slashing your ex’s new partner is generally not a great idea.

One thing jealous ex-lovers should realise is that it’s their own ego and insecurities that are making them jealous, not their ex’s behaviour.

Instead, accept that you can’t control your ex’s behaviour and that loving someone else is not a crime.

So, what should you do?

Here are a few tips to deal with jealousy after a break-up:

  • Block or delete them from social media
  • Avoid contact
  • Don’t be friends with them, at least not at first
  • Hang out with your friends and family
  • Remember that this pain will pass

And if all else fails, there’s always ice cream.
