Over the last couple of weeks (and the last week for the latter), Malaysians and Singaporeans have been bemoaning aloud:

“What’s with this goddamn haze? What’s this shit? Why is it so smoky? WT*********”

Yet, despite all the tension (and blame games going around), the fact remains that in the end…

It’s Indonesia that’s suffering the full brunt of it.

Apart from intense fires that are raging across the entire nation, Indonesia is also mourning the deaths of several haze victims.

Just a few days ago, it was revealed that multiple lives, including one four-month-old baby girl and a 59-year-old man, have been mercilessly claimed. And from the looks of it…

The massacre doesn’t seem to be ending anytime soon, what with the loss of yet another precious life:

This time a baby that was just three days old.

According to Detik, the baby boy, who was born on Monday (16 September), had been well at first.

The next day, however, the baby started showing signs of having a high fever, and his father subsequently brought him to the midwife for treatment.

The midwife prescribed some medicine to the baby, who was reportedly experiencing severe cough and breathing difficulties.

However, even after taking the medicine, the baby remained sick and his temperature refused to budge.

Worried, the father, 28-year-old Evan Zebdrato, consulted the midwife again on Wednesday (18 September), who told him to bring his son to the hospital…

Immediately.

By that time, the infant’s lips were already turning black, and he was having serious breathing difficulties. His temperature was also reportedly recorded at a frightening 40°C. Frantic, Evan quickly rushed his son over the hospital, but it wasn’t meant to be.

The baby died on the way to the hospital.

Nevertheless, the father insisted on bringing his son to the hospital, in hopes that the baby could still be revived. His hopes were swiftly dashed, however, when the doctor confirmed the baby’s passing.

I’m not crying; you are.

Additionally, the doctor stated that the infant’s death had come about as a result of the terrible haze conditions in Indonesia. Apparently, the baby had contracted a virus due to the thick smoke.

According to Evan, he didn’t even have the time to name his baby, as there were rituals to perform before he could do so.

The baby’s remains will be buried in Kabupaten Binjai, Sumatera Utara.

Rest in peace, little one! And please, before any more lives are lost…

Salvage the situation, Indonesia.

For it’s one thing to trouble your neighbours…

It’s another to take the lives of your own people.
