We might just be three days into the new year but already.
Already.
Noteworthy news has already hit the internet.
Besides the Orchard Road’s smoking ban, that is.
Another Lorry Incident Happened, This Time with a Motorcycle
Breaking a lorry’s side mirror and nearly getting sent to hell seems to be a trend that unfortunately seems to be catching on in Singapore.
At least, according to this video uploaded by popular Facebook page ROADS.sg.
It wasn’t known what sparked the incident off.
But while the reason wasn’t as clear-cut as the bicycle vs lorry incident, the aftermath was pretty much the same.
Here’s a Rundown of The Event
The incident allegedly took place along East Coast Road just before Joo Chiat Road at 1.40 pm.
The video started with a motorcyclist slamming a lorry door shut while a food delivery rider came forward to play the mediator.
The kind soul tried to calm the angry motorcyclist down but he didn’t manage to stop him from pulling a karate kid on the poor side mirror.
Meanwhile, there’s an oncoming bus just behind the dispute.
And then, this happened.
Here’s a closer look in case you can’t see what happened clearly.
The lorry drove out and took a swerve. Thankfully, the motorcyclist escaped but his motorcycle got hit and fell to the ground.
You can watch the full video here:
And with fateful swerve, people started reminiscing about another recent incident.
Of course, there are some who thinks the motorcyclist has it coming.
While there are others who felt the lorry driver shouldn’t have done what he did
But at the end of the day, this guy said it right:
It’s still not known what happened so no judgements yet.
Besides the fact that you shouldn’t kick side mirrors, here’s another reason why you shouldn’t react the way the motorcyclist and lorry driver did.
It doesn’t matter who’s the one who instigated the entire incident.
Both parties will be charged anyway, just like in the bicycle-lorry case at Pasir Ris last year.
The driver was going to be charged with rash driving while the cyclist would be charged with rash riding and mischief.
There is not much info pertaining to rash riding. However, for mischief, the punishment could be an imprisonment term of up to one year and/or fine.
For reckless driving (we can’t be certain if it’s similar to rash driving since we couldn’t find anything about “rash driving”), the lorry driver could face an imprisonment term of up to 12 months and/or up to $5,000 fine if it is his first offence. If it is his second offence, his driving license might be revoked.
But did anyone catch something weird in the video?
It’s a Deliveroo rider delivering food with a Foodpanda bag.
Interesting.
