I hope we didn’t offend any tree-related deity. Soon after the falling tree incident in the Botanic Gardens last Saturday, yet another tree fell just yesterday, 13 February.
A tree fell in a carpark on Yuan Ching Road, near Jurong, onto the open passenger car door of a lorry. The window of the door was crushed, and a woman was seriously injured.
Ms Cher Hwee Hwang, 48, the woman who was injured, was sent to the Intensive Care Unit of Ng Teng Fong Hospital for treatment and monitoring. She was visiting one of the tenants when the tree fell on her.
As of now, she is in a stable condition.
Thankfully, the car door took the brunt of the fallen tree, or the tree would have landed directly on Ms Cher.
According to a witness, this was the second time a tree had fallen in the area, with the last incident happening last year, but with no injuries.
Investigations are ongoing.
There are 10 mature trees of the same species, and the witness had expressed concern over the safety of these trees. According to the authorities, trees and greenery in State properties are maintained on a regular basis.
I’d say touch wood and hope that similar incidents don’t happen again, but I’ll be avoiding trees for now.
