Apple is finally letting you delete those preinstalled apps in iOS 10. Here’s what you need to know

Apple users unite! Be it an iPhone, iPad or iPod, I’m pretty sure we all can agree that we have at least 3 applications that we don’t use.

Hence, the lone folder at the corner of our phone “hiding” all the unused apps that we don’t use but can’t delete. Good news, though! We can finally clear that folder for good.

In a conference recently, Apple mentioned that in the new iOS 10, there will be an update in Messaging, Photos and the ability to delete apps that we don’t want. Hooray!

iOS 10 is packed with new updates to Messages, Photos, and more, but one of the most game-changing announcements was that users will be able to ~REMOVE DEFAULT APPS~ for good.

Though some people may still use some- or maybe all, of the 23 undeletable apps, it has been said that if you were to clear all 23 of them, the phone will be freed up with storage of 150MB.

That’s clearly not a lot, but hey, at least we don’t have to see it at the corner every time anymore right?

Here are the 23 applications that can be deleted soon: Calculator, Calendar, Compass, Contacts, FaceTime, Find My Friends, Home, Books, iCloud Drive, iTunes Store, Mail, Maps, Music, News, Podcasts, Notes, Reminders, Stocks, Tips, Videos, Voice Memos, Watch app, Weather.

Like other apps, you can simply delete the apps by holding onto them until they are shaking before clicking on the ‘X’ button to delete.

Another update that will be different is the Messaging app where the developers are involved in creating a better messaging experience. New elements that app developers are bringing in includes more engaging stickers, food ordering systems, improved links giving you the ability to view videos straight from the app instead of being directed to the website.

Features like emojis will be bigger in size and effects will be shown full screen. Imagine watching fireworks exploding in the skies (without the burning smell) – the size of your full screen!

Feel like your messages need a personal touch? The updated app will also allow you to include a message handwritten by you to add into the chat.

They mentioned that they are still working on it though, hence, it will only be available on Apple devices for now instead of apps like Facebook Messenger and Snapchat where all devices have the capability to share.

The new iOS 10 is downloadable by users using iPhone 5 and above, all models of iPad Air and iPad Pro, iPad 2, iPad mini 2 and above as well as the iPod touch 6th generation.

Buzzfeed ran a poll last year and users voted for the number 1 app that they will delete. Results came in and first on the list is Stocks, with the Watch app and News coming 2nd and 3rd.

The iOS10 is said to be available around September but if you’ll like to join their beta and be updated with emails to remind you when they will be ready, the sign up is available on the Apple website.

With many features coming up, we’re definitely sure that more users will be more involved on their phones (although, that may not be good all the time), but remember to update and have fun!
