In the face of climate changes and rising temperature, especially in Singapore which is conveniently close to the Equator—this tropical heat will be the death of us someday—be assured in the knowledge that the unhappy frowns that your fellow citizens are wearing aren’t directed towards you.
It’s the godforsaken heat.
Make-up melting, sweat be rollin’…
Someone please get me into an air-conditioned place ASAP.
ST Engineering Invents a Wearable and Portable Air-Con
During the 2022 Singapore Airshow that is being held from 12 Feb to 18 Feb, defence and engineering group ST Engineering has unveiled state-of-art biometric gates, drone carriers, and autonomous inspection vehicles.
But what automatically caught the delighted eyes of many is a battery-powered product worn over the shoulders called ARC, which is supposed to cool down the neck and face areas quickly with its advanced cooling technology.
Hand-held electric fans or elaborately decorated paper fans, get out of the way, because the leaping technological era is here to take over.
ARC, the Wearable Aircon
According to the ST Engineering website, partnered with INNOVD, the ARC promises three core features:
- Instant Cooling in Seconds
Their parented Thermo-Flo is a multi-modal cooling system with turbocharged blowers that sends chilled area to the neck and face, promising instantaneous relief from the heat in 60 seconds.
Its cooling plate is also made out of material that is three to five times more thermally conducive than metal, which allows it to continuously lower the temperature of a large area by at least 8°C.
- Becoming Cooler as You Sweat
As much as it sounds like an oxymoron, ARC guarantees that the high velocity airflow will increase the human body’s natural ability to cool down, whilst improving the microclimate around the face and neck.
That way, you can stay productive and refreshed all day long, regardless of the weather conditions.
The temperature will no longer be the source of your grouchiness with this reliable product on your shoulders.
- Continuous Operation
Moreover, the product is designed with lightweight ergoflex straps that are comfortable to wear over a long period of time, without causing much strain to your shoulders since there is a three-point weight distribution.
ST Engineering boasts that the ARC is for everyone, whether it’s in field or exposed environments, confined or unventilated workplaces.
The smallness of its batteries ensures that users can carry extras on their persons, and the battery holders can be easily accessed to swap out the dying battery with a new one so that there will be uninterrupted access to the ARC’s cooling prowess.

Frankly speaking, the ARC really does sound like a dream come true, almost like something out of the Marvel Universe.
Except instead of being a new element that can conduct energy and allegedly tastes like coconuts, it provides cold air to its users all day long.
That’s a lot cooler and more practical than Starknium right now, that’s for sure.
Presently, ST Engineering is offering a week free trial to the ARC which you can unlock here.
