Want the Covid-19 pandemic to end so you can have some outdoor fun with your friends?
Reader: I’m more of a homebody, actually.
Well, then you’ll be excited to hear that- wait, you don’t want to go outside?
Reader: I’ve gotten used to the sedentary lifestyle. Netflix, video games, and zero exercise. What’s not to like?
Well, obesity, for one.
Reader: I don’t think I’ll lose much weight playing billiards, to be honest.
Okay, good point.
Still, while those who’ve gotten used to the life of a recluse may be unmoved, many will be happy to learn that even more public entertainment venues will be opening up in July.
Arcades & Billiard Saloons Can Reopen This Sat (4 July) Subject to Safe Management Measures
Several public entertainment venues will be allowed to reopen on Saturday (4 July), announced the Singapore police in an advisory on Tuesday (30 June).
Subject to the implementation of Safe Management Measures (SMMs), these five venues will be allowed to resume operations:
- Amusement centres
- Computer games centres
- Billiard saloons
- Paintball games centres
- Axe-throwing centre
Amusement centres likely include bowling alleys and ice skating rinks.
And if you’re wondering what the heck an axe-throwing centre is, well, it’s exactly as the name suggests: you go there to throw axes.
Some do it for fun, others do it to release stress. Either way, if you’ve been dying to throw an axe during the circuit breaker, you’ll soon be able to.

If you own such an establishment and you’re rubbing your hands together in anticipation, you should remember to take safe distancing rules seriously because operators who do not comply with requirements face harsh punishment.
First-time offenders may face a fine not exceeding S$10,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months, or both.
Tourism Establishments Reopening As Well
After three months of closure, tourism establishments like Universal Studios and the casinos at Marina Bay Sands have reopened today (1 July), along with several other attractions.
The other tourism-linked businesses that will be allowed to resume operations are:
- ArtScience Museum
- Sands SkyPark and Observation Deck
- Flower Dome at Gardens by the Bay
- S.E.A. Aquarium
- Madame Tussauds
- Jurong Bird Park
- River Safari
- Bounce
- Zero Latency
However, most of these attractions will be restricted to 25% of their operating capacity for the time being.
I guess it’s better than nothing, right?
Universal Studios Singapore will only be open from Thursday to Sunday, except on its reopening day – a Wednesday – between 2pm and 9pm.
Still, you’re probably thinking: “That’s great and all, but when will I be able to watch a movie at the cinema?”
Cinemas Can Reopen in Phase 2 Too
Well, according to the Ministry of Health, entertainment venues like cinemas, bars, nightclubs, and karaoke outlets won’t have to wait until Phase 3 to resume operations.
When the authorities feel that it’s safe to do so, they will allow these venues to reopen with safe management measures in place.
So, who knows? Cinemas may reopen in time for us to watch Christopher Nolan’s latest movie Tenet, which has a release date of 13 August for Singapore.
Our fingers are crossed.
