Gang affiliations are particularly frowned upon these days, considering the recent police crackdowns and harsh emphasis of the law.
It got to a point where even displaying a gang sign on social media could get you in deep, deep trouble. Like this guy.
Yet even so, it appears that some still consider themselves above the law…
As the following incident may serve to insinuate.
18Y/O Stabbed by a Broken Beer Bottle by A Bunch of Older Men in Tampines; Bystanders Crowd Around Without Helping
Just yesterday (11 March 2021), Instagram account Sgfollowsall shared a horrifying account of an assault at Tampines on 10 March – which left an 18-year-old bleeding from a neck stab wound.
According to the post, a group of friends had been out for dinner when they were approached by three Chinese men in their 50s or 60s.
Apparently, the older men were looking for a certain “Hafiz”.
Two of them appeared to be drunk.
An eighteen-year-old male in the group answered their query, denying the presence of a “Hafiz” in their midst.
For his efforts, however, he was treated to a punch.
At this point, the eighteen-year-old’s friend retaliated, and things got rather chaotic. It was then that one of the older men came from behind to stab the eighteen-year-old’s neck with a broken beer bottle.
Shocked and puzzled by the turn of events, he could only lie on the floor, as his friend desperately tried to stop the bleeding while shouting for help.
Crowded Around
According to the account, bystanders simply took pictures and videos of the scene. Apparently, it was only after ten minutes that someone called an ambulance.
He added that his other friend had tried to help, but was unable to because one of the older men had chased him with a broken beer bottle.
Thereafter, two of the three older men were arrested. The one who stabbed the eighteen-year-old, however, was able to escape.
As for the victim, he was sent to the hospital, where he now lies in a “stable condition”. Thankfully, the stab did not manage to hit a particularly critical vein.
The account stated that they were “innocent bystanders” and had no prior affiliation with the older men. They are also not in a gang.

3 Arrested
According to Mothership, three men have since been arrested in relation to the case.
Two of them, a 57-year-old and a 60-year-old, have been charged with “voluntarily causing grievous hurt with a dangerous weapon with common intention” in court.
Another 39-year-old man has also been arrested for “public nuisance in relation to the case”.
Police investigations are currently ongoing.
Crackdown
It should be noted that the Singapore Police Force (SPF) has been especially stringent with gang practices in recent times.
On 31 Dec 2020, it was reported that police officers from various divisions had banded together to nab 75 people – who were suspected to be secret society members.
And on 12 Jan 2021, the SPF revealed that they’ve arrested six teenagers aged between 17 and 19 years old.
The reason? They were chanting gang slogans and showing gang-related hand signs at a chalet along Jalan Loyang Basar.
And so, it would be wise to steer clear from any gang-affiliated behaviour during these times, unless you intend to sit out a few hours behind metal bars.
Alternatively, you can also change your name to Melvin.
No guarantee that it will get you out of trouble though.
