Australian calls Singapore a ‘f**king sh*t country’ and gets fired almost immediately

Singapore might’ve been voted one of the best places to live in but some Pokémon fans might disagree – among them being Sonny Truyen.

Pokémon Go (The Pokémon Company’s first ever mobile app) was just released last week on 6 July, but sadly, it’s not available here just yet.

Which made Australian-born Truyen very, very angry.

A Facebook user was unhappy with his derogatory comment and gave him a piece of her mind.

But Truyen didn’t want to back down, which resulted in a quarrel between the two.

Netizens quickly sourced out his place of work – which happened to be the property listing portal 99.co – and took to their Facebook page to express their fury.

99.co was swift to engage in damage control, personally apologising to everyone who commented.

CEO Darius Cheung even went a step further to make an announcement on local forum Hardware Zone to appease angry netizens.

15 years of reading HWZ forum and finally signed up for an account!

Hi everyone, this is Darius, I am the CEO of 99.co.

And yes i am the one who hired Sonny as an SEO consultant. (and yes, he has been terminated immediately)

Thank you for everyone’s reaction, I am a proud Singaporean too and I apologise for the incident.

I’ve also written a full article regarding this and my related thoughts –

[ it seems i cannot post links – u can google it and find it on 99 co blog ]

IMHO, you have every right to be angry at this incident and Sonny specifically, I am too.

But I also sincerely hope that we would not generalise this to be a sweeping discrimination against Australians or Vietnamese or FT. We are better than that as a society!

You might be glad to know that Truyen has been “terminated with immediate effect” (within a day, in fact) after only one week at the company. His Facebook page has also been taken down.

99.co has released a full apology here on their website (One of our readers, Cindy, found the apology letter online. Thank you, Cindy!).

Moral of the story? Don’t “talk cock” on social media – think before you speak.
