Australian Teen Goes On Killing Spree; Runs Down 20 Kangaroos In Truck

Kangaroos are adorable. And baby kangaroos, joeys, are even cuter.

No one could ever bear hurting one right?

Well that was what I thought before I heard that a 19-year-old man in Australia ran down a total of 20 kangaroos with his truck in a one-hour murder spree.

The teen allegedly ran down the 20 kangaroos with his truck late last Saturday, 28 September, on the road at Tura Beach. He has already been caught, arrested and charged with animal cruelty offences.

The Bega Valley chief inspector, Mr Peter Volf mentioned that these incidents are not taken lightly and perpetrators of the law will face the ‘full brunt’ of it. (Honestly, preach it dude cause that teen deserves to be punished for hurting and killing some of the world’s cutest creatures.)

While this case was extreme and honestly just depressing, it is sadly not uncommon to hear kangaroos being run down in Australia since 90% of the car crashes in New South Wales involves a collision with an animal.

However, locals and even the police were shocked because of the violent and intentional nature of this case.

Like honestly, why would he even do such a thing?

What’s worse was that of the 20 kangaroos killed, two of them were joeys and there were at least three other joeys that were left orphaned because of this.

The reason why this was especially devastating is that while kangaroos begin venturing out of their mother’s pouch after a few months, they are not fully independent until they are about 18 months old.

This means that these orphaned joeys will probably have a tough time as they will have to try to become mature at an earlier age since this brutal incident took the lives of their parents.

Okay, but you don’t need to worry too much about these joeys. Thankfully, the orphaned joeys were taken to a wildlife rescue group known as WIRES and the volunteers there are now giving these tiny creatures 24/7 care.

At least there is still hope in this world now that we know that there are other amazing, kind kangaroo-loving people among us.

Kudos to the volunteers at WIRES for becoming the orphaned joeys’ new parents!
