Layovers can get boring especially when you find yourself waiting for hours on end. But an Australian man found an exciting and creative solution.
Stealing.
Though stealing in transit isn’t the first case of its kind, the man has definitely made a name for himself while in Singapore, having stolen $10,000 worth of items.
The Man Himself
While in Singapore for a layover during his flight from Germany to Melbourne, Bailey Chad Philip, 45, stole from not one, not two but SEVEN stores within three hours.
Wah, three hours only. Fast game.
Items Stolen By Aussie
In the wee hours of the morning, Philip stole a 700-ml bottle of whisky priced at $5,400 from a duty-free shop in Terminal 2.
He went on to stole four more bottles of whisky, along with three packets of cigarettes and three cans of beer.
In addition to the whisky, cigarettes and beer, he also took two bottles of perfumes worth a total of $300, a BlueTooth speaker, two pairs of headphones and two pairs of earphones.
As if those weren’t enough, he went on to Terminal 1 and stole more.
He later took a Fendi bag fur sling bag that was worth $3,400.
You can say that this man has expensive taste.
Discovery
Fortunately, an employee at Fendi discovered that the bag was missing from the display shelf before Philip boarded his flight.
The police found him near the Terminal 1 departure transit and searched him. All stolen items were recovered and returned to the stores.
High on Alcohol and Medication
Afraid of flying, Philip had taken anxiety medication before his flight. He had also drunk alcohol after. The mixture had caused him not to think straight and he attributed his behaviour to the intake of alcohol and medication.
He pleaded guilty to one count of theft and was jailed for 12 days.
Guess it’s an extended layover for this Aussie.
